Actually, I will say that as amusing as it is, there is a lot of angst being generated here about a discussion. I, for one, believe in freedom of speech, and appreciate hearing as many viewpoints as possible. I believe pretty much everyone has done a good job of discussing the plane (discussing the discussion, as I'm doing now, is another matter). I appreciate hearing what concerns people and what they find enjoyable about these new releases. I count on it, actually, in making my buying decisions. I've used this discussion to make a buying decision in this particular case, in fact. Thanks to all who have participated. It was helpful.
I will comment that I find it ironic, at least, that it is primarily those who are fussing about fussing that are the ones who are guilty of the thing they are complaining about: using over the top and vague labels like "trash" and "nasty" to characterize other contributions. I've found the actual discussion of the plane itself to be both specific and limited to factual claims as opposed to emotional language. Now, where did I put my safety helmet....

Right. Characterizing other peoples' comments is the beginning of the usual internet disintegration of any kind of useful discussion. Check any long thread on any long subject, anywhere, and after about page two (or 1.5 these days) you just have variants on Three Stooges routines, with everyone getting increasingly angry.
Explains why war exists, same problem on a larger scale.

And the lights... odd, ive got the update with the fixed compass in the installer... but not that bit... (Btw, i did like how they refreshed my '3 downloads limit' to three when they updated the installer... thats a small but important bit of customer service.

There is no issue with complaints about aircraft, just keep in mind that tact is always appreciated. I haven't read most of this thread, so it really doesn't apply to any person or post in particular.

Yes they do, I used it.
So, here's a topic. Can people point out any good features instead of bugs?
I like that wooden window sill, looking like it was covered with laquere and is aged a bit. So realistic.
Another nicely done feature is the gear bay, done in white like Staggers that I have seen. (Oil leaks show up faster this way). The shading of the landing gear, possibly done with Ambient Occlusion rendered shading is brilliant...
Another feature that I thought was perhaps artwork later done to screenshots was the brilliant prop disc. Looks like a real aluminum prop.

I love the sound and the way it flies. I could only get to those things because the look of the Staggerwing is captured so well. Anyway, on my sound system it really rocks! Deep radial sounds with the clickie bits, nice. Flying approaches, it easily settles into a solid controllable final. Just feels as good as it looks.

I can't say my opinion has been influenced by any of these viewpoints. I love the plane and am happy to have what I think is a beautiful model both inside and out that makes me smile as I drive this wonderfully formed plane through the sky.
Bill asked us to tell what we like about it. I agree that the sound is impressive and as I was cruising near top speed and quickly backed off the power I heard a wonderfully harsh noise, perhaps from the prop, that made it seem even more realistic.
I'm looking forward to the update and finding even more to enjoy, I'm happy that I bought it.

I like it and the only problem I see is I have no working nav lights,beacon,or strobe. I do have landing and panel lights. In the a/c cfg file Lights section there is no entries for those lights, or the landing lights but they work??
Disregard this post, the nav lights do work but really dim in the day time so thought they weren't working and see there is no strobes so no i guess they wouldn't work if there not there. Beacon is not working.

Reddog I'm beginning to wonder whether you and I both have some funky mystery in our FSX config, as we're both having the weird electrical issues (you on XP, me on Win 8 64-bit). I recently repaired FSX/Acceleration both, so whatever that fixes, it's not it (doesn't change fsx.cfg).
I absolutely love the way the plane looks, and that while it feels like it has a very powerful engine yet is so agile, it also feels BIG when taxiing. Really interesting and difficult perceptual combination to achieve, and whatever the statistics, makes it feel very realistic and dynamic to me.
The engine sounds are some of the best I've heard in payware; there's an excellent blend between different RPMs, and the changes to the sounds in different flight regimens is plausible, seamless, and again, contributes mightily to the feel of the plane.
Though I can change it, either thru aircraft.cfg or shift-enter, I'm perfectly happy with the challenges the set eye point provides while flying and, particularly, landing.
The gauges are just the right balance between classic and modern, and beautifully implemented; no edges in the circular bezels, and the reflections are very convincing.
I love the cleverness of the blue edging of the window glass, it contributes to the sense that you are looking through glass, just as the etching on some of Carenado's windshields plausibly represent the polycarbonate nature of same. And yes, despite the baked-in reflection (really a minor nit), the wood textures and reflectiveness of same are gorgeous.
The flight model is another huge strength; nothing else in my collection feels quite like it, and it combines power and agility with the ability to cruise at length in comfort when desired, no mean feat. I'm not having to constantly correct once I've got it trimmed out, but at the same time, I don't feel like I'm in a non-dynamic point-and-shoot state.
It takes off well from short runways, but you really have to have it under control and set up right for an anxiety-free landing. Its responses to wind turbulence, such as it is in FSX, feel right on.
And, importantly, and this is something I like about Carenado and Alabeo planes both: it just works. No significant visual, control, sonic, electrical, loading issues. The elevator trim was a surprise but easily correctable.
And, I haven't ground-looped yet, with default tail wheel. But it's nice to feel like I could, if I'm not careful. The plane tells you by feel what its limits are, which is one of the greatest appeals of a classic, non-automated GA aircraft.

I reloaded my plane and all is fixed...compass and lights. Never had any other issues that have been mentioned.

I would point to those things as well - and as others have mentioned the instrument faces and bezels and the VC in general is outright amazing - much like all their other works to date, including their Waco and both 'dusters
Alabeo - they do curves perfectly...very smooooth - like heywooood likes 'em
really looking forward to your Fairchild BtW...
Does anyone know where I can get a set of Pilot's Notes for the Staggerwing as am having tremendous engine management problems and all always red lining or even worse. Can't seem to get things to settle down and when I do, the engine sounds as if its on tick over when I think and from what I can remember should be a lot louder.

Just checked, the problem is that the markings on the RPM gauge are wrong.
RW values from the manual:
T/O 2300RPM 37MP
MCT 2200RPM 33MP
CRZ 2000RPM 28MP
With the Alabeo Staggerwing the RPM doesn't increase above 2300RPM, so you aren't actually beyond any limit.
The RPM sound is presently reversed. You have to check the RPM and MP gauge to confirm the correct power settings.
