C-97G Stratofreighter Uploaded

Again another beauty, Duckie.

You Jankees and the other repainters make me feel like it is my birthday every other day. Wow, wait..... That would make me age way too fast :biggrin-new:

Catching up on the progress of this great old bird . logged about 1400 hours in "F" and "G" models. While a very comfortable airplane (especially compared to the B-47) it did have a lot of down time for maintenance. Engine replacements were routine. along with avionics boxes (slide-ins). Landing with three engines was a regular occurrence, and was just "another day at the office"
The data source for aircraft/squadrons/locations is flawed.
Not your fault afvet, I have run across the same kind of goofs:

This was from AMARC.
They were also at Pease, Kindley AFB, Bermuda (55th ARS),<wrong Ashiha AB Japan, Clark AB PI (31st ARS), Eielson AB, AK, (71st ARS)"

March AFB was home of the 22nd AREFS and the 322 AREFS both 15t AF I was in the 22nd until July 1959

The 303rd AREFS was stationed at Kindley AFB, Bermuda and was 8th AF. My crew transferred to the 393rd in July of 1959.

None of this is really important as the project goes. I just can't help putting my "guys" where they belong :untroubled:

How true....
According to USAF Historical Factsheets (http://www.afhra.af.mil/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=10641) the 303rd ARS with HC-97's assigned (1965-1972) while assigned to March AFB (Nov 1, 1960-June 30, 1993). They also had KC-97's from 65-66.

According to Rotorhead (http://www.rotorheadsrus.us/documents/55th_rescue_sq_.html)the 55th ARS was assigned to Kindley 1960-1970, and the HC-97 assigned from 1964-1966.

No fight, just stating my sources.

Meanwhile, happy dancing awaiting the HC-97 :wiggle:

Anyway, there is another civil registration Strat repaint on work. It shows Stratofreighter C-97G N1365N of Hawkins & Powers.

It is made in 1953 but converted to HD video quality!

I don't believe there were any KC's assigned to Puerto Rico. My crew flew into Puerto Rico in 1961 or 62 (can't remember why) and I didn't see any. Puerto Rico was a bit off the track for most SAC deployments. Doesn't mean they were not there though. What I DO remember is that there was a U-2 Weather Recon bird sitting unattended in an open hangar. My co-pilot and I had a ball giving it a really good look (we had seen one land at Eilson, AK a couple of years earlier but could.t get a close look). Maybe we were to distracted to see any other KC's :)

As for AF fact sheets I can only say that I was in the 303rd AREFS from July 1959 until June 1962 and we were at Kindley AFB along with an Air Rescue squadron (ARS), a KB-50-J squadron that refueled fighters, And a Weather Recon squadron (can't recall what they flew).

As for KC-97 liveries: Aside from a few with Arctic Day-Glow they were all the same if in SAC......plain Jane with the pretty bow.

Thank you, I do not have a list. I have a picture of "30310" when it was underwater at KSTJ due to a flood on the Missouri River. It has 2 tanks atop the fuselage and I am thinking it might have been a tanker, but again I'm uncertain.

Thank you, and Duckie too for that information. That news article says that the underwater C97 was a tanker but I can't tell for sure except for the additional apparatus atop the fuselage that would indicate a tanker.
