Albatross!! Albatross!!!

It appears to be a mapping issue to me.

VCN-1

Definitely a DX10/Nvidia issue

I had to pop round my friends house to check.
Attached are none DX10 and DX10 shots of the same aircraft, running on a Nvidia 9800GX2.
I also see the same thing on the AS B-47 and Dino's T-45C

Pernik

You are absolutely correct.

I had downloaded Jimmy Buffet's Hemisphere Dancer at flightsim.com and saw the same thing. Thought it was a map problem.

Hey Pernik,
Thanks for the info…I’m running an older NVIDIA 6800GS but I’m not sure how to turn DX10 Preview off…I don’t see any check boxes to disable it within the sim. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

In FSX click on Settings then Customize. There will be a Preview DX10 option there. If it's checked uncheck it.
Hope this helps.

Concur! Lovely! Though a shame there's not a model for the RCAF version, which used the QCU fron the CS2F. Quite lumpy and bulbous looking compared to the standard engine installation on the HU-16. But a minor nit.Alpha has done a great job on this one, as with all of their models, and the repaints are the bomb! Grew up in Comox, 'bout 800 meters from 442's barn. Airplane noise 24/7, and nothing like the sound of 1820's and 3350's. Now if a brave soul would take on the thousend eye'd watch dog, I could relive my miss spent youth from the drivers seat in totality!

Hi chaps,

Great paints. Just a few notes whilst I lurk:
- Pernik is correct- it's an odd driver issue, not a mapping issue. Seldom seen recently but it does appear every so often.
- Manual- the txt file was deemed 'enough'. The big PDF manuals I used to write were not really taken to (customers seemed to enjoy them though).
- Gauges- no, sorry, gauges can't be swapped. Though the 3D gauges should have less of an overhead than the default Goose gauges. I'd look elsewhere to try and save fps. YMMV.

ATB to all.
Dan.

If anyone's interested, I'm retexturing some parts of the VC, parts that I didn't like, which is really just a case of personal taste. But I got rid of the cracked padding and also added a bit of a plastic effect to the Grumman logo. Those were the two things I really didn't like but I may do a more complete overhaul, just for the fun of it. :)

Here's how the wheel, logo and padding on the railing look now.

Hi guys

I used to have this problem on several AlphaSim models (B-36, B-47, T-6) in DX9 but it cleared up with a nVidia video driver update. I believe I was using a GeForce 7 series card at the time. I have a 9800GT now and no such problem. Hope this helps!

Bruce, you are a painting machine! Excellent work…same goes to the rest of all you painters!:applause:

Thanks to all for the feedback on the texture issues and thanks for the info pertaining to the gauges Dan!

I love the 3-D gauges that come with the Albatross but unfortunately my computer takes forever to draw in the virtual cockpit and the gauges usually don’t draw in at all. This might be a problem related to the DX10 option or perhaps the fact that my computer is just not powerful enough to handle it. However the default Goose runs without any issue.

Anyways, my Albatross problems are not with the model itself but rather my computer. I’m running XP Pro and as I already mentioned, I have an old video card (NVIDIA 6800GS).

For now I guess I’ll just have to live with the visual problem because I read this in another forum:

“For the dx10 option to show up in FSX you need 3 things: Vista, SP2 of FSX, and a dx10 compatible video card. If you are missing any one of these, the dx10 Option WILL NOT show up and you will be running under dx9!”<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

Bama,

I'm running nearly the same as you: XP Pro and a NVIDIA 6800 (256mb), the CPU is a HP Pavillion 1125c (640 Intel Pentium 4) with 4GB Ram and 226GB harddrive. I have the sliders set for med quality model and I get about a 1 second delay drawing the panel when switching from external to cockpit views. Cycling through the internal positions there is no noticable delay drawing the panel.

One way to get a quicker Panel-Load is to resize the textures - from 4096 to 2048 - you will have to resize the HU16_G1_T.dds and HU16_G1_L.dds .

Greetings :wavey: Dirk

Any news about a reworked airfile?
Still have a nearly unflyable Albatross!
She still trims herself rapidly to a stall or to overspeed.

Well, you still have me beat…I only have a 30GB hardrive (nearly maxed out) and 1GB RAM.

Thanks for the tip…I’ll try this out and hopefully it will make a difference but realistically I think my only other option is a new computer.
