AS F-4 Phantom

That's a really nice looking Phantom there Dave, is that repaint available anywhere?

It's at flightsim.com, called "asph424.zip" by Andy Nott.
You will need the Model 10 from the Pack 3 paint kit mentioned earlier. I don't want to see this paint on anything with an RWR pod.

I was at Wattisham in 1979 when XV424 first got back from the paint shop at St Athan - wearing this scheme, along with her sister ship XV486.

Thanks a lot Dave.

Already got the right model ready and waiting for it, no RWR pod, promise! :)

Gray Eagle....
Yes...seems a bit backward...but I started with pack1...but 'completed' pack 3 first...then 2....

Here's a 'B' from pack 1...;)

I need to polish things so there's less user-error...;)

WOW!! I really appreciate your hard work and talent in this endeavor. Thank you. :applause:

Oorah!

Dave - quick question - those last two shots in DX10 or 9?

thx,

DL

ps - dumb question: for those of us techno-peasants not using widescreen format monitors, will this new panel work (the RF- model specifically, but any of the others too ...) I recall Don, when he released the upgraded FSX F-8, offered both sets of panels (not that I'm asking Jafo to do so) - just trying to understand the science of what can / can't be shared between the two formats ...

DL...
I have another comp with a 4x3 profile monitor....I could stick an FSX demo on it and check compatibility....
Alternatively the 2D panel could be 'letterboxed' in 4x3...simply 'packed' with dead-space....would be a not-overly difficult re-jigging of co-ords as all of the components are directly referenced to my full res...not fractions/% of it....;)

Thanks Dave - yeah, since I don't do tacpac - the visual quality/performance is the draw to DX10. That said, there'll be a few headaches yet to sort out on the conversion side ...

Jafo - please don't spend any undue amount of time yet. I'll try tonight and report back. You've spent mountains of time on these Phantoms, I'd hate for you to accommodate me when likely most others are the more common format.

Thanks to all!

It wouldn't be for a ...... while.....
I'm still working out what to do with the Pack2 set.
I started with what I thought was an 'E' and ended up with a 'D'...to the point where an 'E' was clearly different.
So what I'm doing at the moment is a second panel....that is 'more correctly' an 'E'.

What I imagine might work is if the 'D' is used for the C, D, E2, and F models...
and the 'E' is used for the E, EJ and G.
Main difference, apart from the extra gauge at left is the 'missile status panel' in the E and later export vers...[and apparently a retrofit for the earlier ones].

I hope to piggy-back them both into one upload...the E panel aliased mostly to the D.

Here's what I'm thinking is an F4E ....almost done.

Ick...
The extra model '11' is an RF4B ....and that's quite a different panel to the RF4E....the left side of the panel is quite different.

Looks like I need to do a third for pack 3 ....;)

What you need is more pixels.
I'm running my monitor at its native 1920 X 1080 - which causes issues in the 2D panels.

This is an RF4B....lower left of main panel is different to the RF4C.....what I need now is pictures...;)

Anyone?

This is where I'm at with the RF4B.....it's primarily the dark 'blob' on the left...;)

Dave...none of those is a photo of an RF4B....the C is different [I already did one that's suitable for a C and beyond].

I have the natops manual for it....just no photographs of the actual panel [not counting schematics]

Hey Jafo!

So ... interesting night last night. Well, that too, but anyway, on to topic of the panels :

1) 2D is a big scramble - it's offset, and none of the gauges sit where you intended them.

2) VC is pretty good - and what I REALLY like, is that when I adjust the seat up for landings, the gauges don't shift up out of there "mounts" the way the old one did. I too have that horizontal line .... it's a bit hard on frames, and if I have more time, I'll maybe disable one of the radars ... but the gauges sit where they should, so that's good.

3) the effects ... work!!! By that I mean, I have had spotty results seeing AB effects in DX10 - these work fine.

So I may have to cobble something together where I disable or ignore the 2d (which is a bummer, the main panel bmp looks lovely) - but I'd say I'm back in the RF-4 business ...

A point to suggest as you work on these - maybe check them against different models - the last FSX VC/panel mods yielded slightly different results depending on the model ...

Many thanks for all your work on the Phantoms. Much as I like the new J Milviz Phantoms (at least from pics) - the AS/V RF will remain on my drive, and likely the B model, esp if your upcoming panel mod can hide the "holes" I currently have in the VC. Note, those holes there UNLESS I fly in the clean model - and since my preferred model is the unarmed+2 tanks scheme, then I have to not look too far down in the VC.

cheers,

DL

I can't find a picture of the RF-4B cockpit interior anywhere.

Help! I'm becoming a geek.....

Hi DL,

Yes we all seem to be RF fans here - it has something extra in character ..

I have the same issue as you with the 2D panel. It goes away ONLY if I i) switch to unwindowed mode AND ii) drop the res down to 1680 x 1050, which is Jafo's native res. Then the 2D panel looks and stays right. Problem for me is, that is not my native res. And I like to fly in windowed mode. SO I may too disable the 2D or use, e.g. Don B's one that has a lot of functions (eg AP) built into it. I also can't click on/off the starter switches or beacon lights. Might be I am missing some gauges? Lastly, I had to add entries to the VC01 section of the panel.cfg for the AI traffic to appear in the ARS4 (see the ARS4 docs to do this). The two working scopes with AI plane and ship traffic really make this look great.

Like this paint. Interesting, some of the photos of the plane IRL show the lettering on the tail in yellowish/gold instead of white. Also need to match the centerline tank with the more white shade of the wing tanks ..
