Battle of Britain

Rami,

I hate to say this, but I had the same issue on a clean install.

Maybe someone else can download and install on a clean CFS 2. I may have some kind of gremlin in my system. The puzzling thing is the RAF Battle for France Screen. It comes up loading scenery etc. but CTD. I have never had the opportunity to add scenery through the sim settings.

Not sure what I may be doing wrong.

??

Jim,

I'll take a look at it this afternoon. It would be nice if other people who have downloaded it would have had the courtesy (besides those who have commented in this thread) to comment on issues, but since they have not, I'll have to try and troubleshoot on my own without knowing what I'm looking for. :angryfire:

It's like playing chess in the dark.

Rami,

Actually I had problems as well but as I haven't run the installer a second time I don't know whether I did something wrong or...
I actually had the battle of france opening screen as well but in the end I had a corrupt database so I deleted all (after checking the most obvious) and intended to do a fresh install later.

Regards,

Jan

Hang tight Rami.

Let us "tinker" a little bit. I don't know how you do what you do on this sim dealing with your health issues. My hat is off to you. :applause:

Just got back home from a funeral. I have an idea I will try later.

Jim,

If you're getting a CTD on startup, I'm wondering if it might be with that UIRES pack I included from Captain Kurt. But I have a church dinner tonight, and tomorrow is Palm Sunday, so I don't think I'll be able to do much on it until Sunday afternoon anyway. Hopefully that will give some time to find an answer here.

Rami
I got the proper load screen to come up from Capt Kurt's uries, but it still CDT. I then tried a uries from an older ETO and still no joy. I don't know enough of what I am doing to be of much help.
I am wondering if the installers were maybe corrupted on the download. I may try again sometime tomorrow.
Sorry!

Rami,

In "peeling back the onion" in BOB pt ll, I found some items in the "extras" folder that were not explained ( that I could find) in your auto installer instructions. You refer to the extra explained later, but did not see it---An Aircraft folder with Coastal gun, paratroop and 2 vehicles; Addon with AF priority target;custom texture; Scenerydb; scenery; GSL; INFO; etc and various other folders.

Not sure exactly how these would affect the install. Also the screen_splash.bmp is Battle of France rather than Battle of Britain. I copied and pasted the correct one into the Uries from Captain Kurt's Uries.
After I downloaded and extracted all the files, I manually installed in a fresh install each folder contents except the"extras".

CTD again:banghead:

Jim et al,

I've been working on this end. I went through the UIRES folder and found out there may be some overlap between Ajax / Captain Kurt's files. So I recompiled the UIRES folder using just CK's RAF screen set, and Ajax's for Germany and Italy. I also used CK's BoB start screen this time, not the Battle of France.

So let's rule out the UIRES as the problem first. Try deleting all your .cdp and filelist.dat files, and then throw out your UIRES folder where you ran the auto-installer and use the attachment instead.

If you read the installation guide, the "EXTRAS" folder is not needed, I included that folder to make sure I was honoring the specific requirements of readme files demanding I do not break packages up.

"When I received permission from the various authors to include their files, in addition to assuring them that this will not be sold for profit, nor for any other commercial use, I also assured the authors that I would keep their packages intact. To this end, files from these authors, especially scenery files which you do not need for the Battle of Britain campaign package, are in this folder. You are welcome to look through this folder, and no files in this folder will harm your computer or cause any issues in the installation, they're just not necessary. You can feel free to delete this folder without any ill effects on the campaign."

Also, please double-check you followed the instructions regarding the fact that because of the number of objects included, you should turn your stock objects_dp folder into a backup and use the one with the auto-installer only, because otherwise the object count will be too high.

Rami
I did the objects folder as instructed. Wasn't sure about the items in the extras folder other that the a/c textures. Will follow your suggestions and see what happens.

Calling all ETO hands...please help!

Good evening,

I am in need of some assistance. My installation discs have gone astray, and I need someone with a clean install and an ETO base setup to confirm problems with the CFS2 BoB installation. I have not been able to duplicate these problems, because my installation works normally.

I need someone with a clean install please to install both aircraft packs, confirm everything works normally please, then test the second pack, following the instructions provided in the downloads and see if you can duplicate this CTD error prior to the main screen that some users are getting.

I am determined to avoid the RussBoB curse, but I need help getting to the bottom of this! :banghead:

Clean ETO. MTO, PTO setups

Hi All,

I see Rami needs a clean CFS2, ETO install.

I do not think that you would be allowed to 'upload' one, due to copyright etc.

It would be handy to have access to clean installs of ETO, MTO, and PTO, using Rami's Guides, to avoid having to 'do it all again'.

I understand that the meshes take up a lot of space.

Is it possible?

Cheers,

Stuart

mdlnames

PS,

I have only posted this due to the ambiguity of the mdl.names.

Some say' leave the originals' and do not bother with the add-ons.

But the instructions from the '3rd parties' say 'put these in the mdl.names'

A lot of my problems with 'need to reinstall' have been associated with the mdl.names being to large.

Cheers,

Stuart

Stuart277,

The mdlnames.txt angle is definitely one of the things I was going to check. Good suggestion! :very_drunk:

P.S. - Happy to see you returned safely from Lord Howe Island; I was kind of worried about you with Debbie lurking. :encouragement:

Give yerself a smack, right upside yer head!

My installation discs have gone astray

I do not understand your problem.

Didn't a VERY NICE man give you both of the CFS2 .iso files several years ago? :dizzy:

Have you forgotten how to burn them to CD? :dizzy::dizzy:

Do you still have a problem?? :encouragement:
