CBI Scenery Project

I recently re-installed the AVG campaign, but on my existing install with Xaviers eawwii scenery. Now I made a completly separate CBI install from scratch and wondered how to treat Xaviers scenery within that. If I put away the overlapping airstrips out from the Xavier scenery directory as suggested in the readme-file, I obviously can install both simultanously, but what about the gsl-files for Xaviers scenery?

Firstly, this was never intended to replace Xaviers scenery, so I'm not going to produce new gsl packs for what's not overwritten by my gsl.
The answer is to process in creation date order.
Xaviers gsl is older - it pre-dates Rhumbas mesh (which all my scenery packages are designed to highlight).
So, for a "combi" install:-

Install Xavier's East Asia package.
Install his gsl - your gsl now contains all of Xaviers gsl.

Install my packages as appropriate.

Archive Xaviers fields as highlighted.

Install my gsl packages, as appropriate.

These (smaller) gsl packages will just replace Xaviers gsl in the locations I've reworked, leaving other locations untouched.

Notes & caveats

I try my best to highlight conflicts but I don't claim to have caught them all. It's not my intention to replace Xavier fields, I'm just highlighting those I know about as I appreciate most users will already have Xaviers packages installed as part of the old AVG campaigns.

Xaviers fields were built pre- Rhumba mesh, so expect runway altitude issues.

We have better quality source information available nowadays, so although most of Xaviers locations are pretty close to my fields, his runway orientations are significantly different.

There have also been a few locations I've noticed shifts of the gsl into adjacent gobs necessary. Chiang Mai, & Raheng in Thailand come to mind.

Or fields that didn't exist until later in the war, like Chenggong (Cheng Kiang?).

This might mean you have no gsl for such Xavier fields, as I've created gsl for the surrounding area to match the early '42 timeframe.

Hope this helps.

Progress continues, here's some screengrabs of areas away from air facilities.

Yenangaung, with some oil rigs north of town

Further up the Irrawaddys right bank we have Chauk, also a site of a few rigs

Moving east, away from the river, we arrive at the pilgrim site of Kyaukpadaung

Almost done with the next part. This will extend the Irrawaddy north almost to Mandalay. It also extends the Sittang valley northwards to the important railway junction at Thazi, & will include Meiktila.

There'll be some new objects unfortunately, as the temples around Pagan (Bagan) really couldn't be ignored...

Here's a few screengrabs from the last round of gsl work...

Ancient temples & stupas in & around the walled town of Pagan.

On the opposite bank of the Irrawaddy more oil wells can be found...

To the east, we have the crucial location of Meiktila.

I struggled with the air facilities in this area. Campaign histories do not mention any bases around Meiktila for the 1942 invasion. The first mention is 50th Sentai basing ki43II at Kangaung (to the west of Meiktila) in FEB'43.

But the nearest facility would be Heho in the hills to the east of the Sittang, & this central location on the Irrawaddy plain, close to the railway junction at Thazi, surely must have had some pre-war runways nearby.

Especially seeing that, by late '44, there were 7 different runways in use within 20 miles of Meiktila!!!

So, I decided to put some underdeveloped pre-war fields at Thedaw (to the NE), & the field immediately to the east of town (site of much fighting in the spring of '45).

Further out to the NW, I put away gravel ELS at Thabukton. This would be the site of a Brigade strength airlift in '45.

UncleTgt submitted a new resource:

Burma - Magwe + Meiktila - Next addition to Burma scenery covers Magwe, Meiktila & the Irrawaddy plain

Magwe Scenery for CFS2 by UncleTgt

View attachment 175453

This is a reworking of the stock sceneries for the Magwe-Meiktila area of Burma. This is the seventh in a series of scenery releases, to expand & build on this area to cover more of the Burma theatre of operations. It covers the Irrawady plain, as far north as Pakokko, plus the upper Sittang valley as far north as Thazi.

It is designed for use with Rhumbas mesh, but as it's outside the SWPTO, should work well in a...

Just flew around the new scenery - Pagan looks fabulous with the new objects. Thanks very much John! :applause:
There are many more smaller ruins - temples, shrines etc. I just did some of the larger items to give the area some "flavour", without hitting the object dp limit - it is a Combat Sim after all! 👾
