I recently re-installed the AVG campaign, but on my existing install with Xaviers eawwii scenery. Now I made a completly separate CBI install from scratch and wondered how to treat Xaviers scenery within that. If I put away the overlapping airstrips out from the Xavier scenery directory as suggested in the readme-file, I obviously can install both simultanously, but what about the gsl-files for Xaviers scenery?
Firstly, this was never intended to replace Xaviers scenery, so I'm not going to produce new gsl packs for what's not overwritten by my gsl.
The answer is to process in creation date order.
Xaviers gsl is older - it pre-dates Rhumbas mesh (which all my scenery packages are designed to highlight).
So, for a "combi" install:-
Install Xavier's East Asia package.
Install his gsl - your gsl now contains all of Xaviers gsl.
Install my packages as appropriate.
Archive Xaviers fields as highlighted.
Install my gsl packages, as appropriate.
These (smaller) gsl packages will just replace Xaviers gsl in the locations I've reworked, leaving other locations untouched.
Notes & caveats
I try my best to highlight conflicts but I don't claim to have caught them all. It's not my intention to replace Xavier fields, I'm just highlighting those I know about as I appreciate most users will already have Xaviers packages installed as part of the old AVG campaigns.
Xaviers fields were built pre- Rhumba mesh, so expect runway altitude issues.
We have better quality source information available nowadays, so although most of Xaviers locations are pretty close to my fields, his runway orientations are significantly different.
There have also been a few locations I've noticed shifts of the gsl into adjacent gobs necessary. Chiang Mai, & Raheng in Thailand come to mind.
Or fields that didn't exist until later in the war, like Chenggong (Cheng Kiang?).
This might mean you have no gsl for such Xavier fields, as I've created gsl for the surrounding area to match the early '42 timeframe.
Hope this helps.
