City Textures rework

Thanks Clive, This took me the better part of yesterday, 20 global layer entries and I burned through 7 of Beethoven's 9 symphonies, most repeated at least once. A new record for me excuse the pun.:D
I was wondering whether I create this mod to provide an opportunity to listen to good music, or listen to good music in order to create space to work on this mod.

This morning I captured some googlearth images of the South England coastline and we'll see how far we get. Of course I'll be selective when choosing where to place beaches.

I'm currently adding bits of beach to either side of Ramsgate.

Now you know why I can't work to a timeline, new stuff keeps popping up.

There's only about 19,500 miles of UK coastline so you have a little more to be getting on with
only about 19,500 miles... "a piece of cake" he says.
A journey of 19,500 miles starts with one step! he confidently exclaims as his Hurri goes down in flames from the sheer shock of the magnitude of it all.:gameoff:

This is meant to be Broadstairs. A beach gives me some incentive to develop it further, add some extra modules along the elbow and the boot shaped pier at the top.

My il2 version which cant be used because there are no tools to shape the mesh altitude and coastline in Cfs3.

The models are usable or at least parts are. I used a part of my il2 Ramsgate harbour to create the Cfs3 version. I was going to detach the boot shaped pier and just use that, but I could adjust the mesh and significantly reduce the height of the other raised sections and use that after scaling and reskinning it in gmax. It will never look as good as the Il2 version though. I will see what I can do.

Again very nice work Glen. That Kent coastline all the way down through Sandwich (yes, it's a real place lol) from Manston to Kingsdown are beautiful sandy beaches. That sand colour and textures you're using are excellent. Just a comment, some of the trees are looking gigantic!

Cheers

Hi Shessi, thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, the tree size is unavoidable. I did reduce the size of the trees, but then the forest loses a lot of it's density, and it affects general field clumps as well, which means using a lot more trees, leading to low framerates. So there is a reason for the purposefully large trees. Bob2 wov uses this technique to puff out forests as well.

A beach at Folkestone stretching all the way to Dungeness. I will be fleshing out Folkestone and Dover placements now that I have a few more smaller modules.

That gradient leading up to Dungness was a sonofab1tch to work on, like scaling an ever steepening horizontal mountain. Placing a beach on a relatively straight coastline is pretty easy. This is why you need to listen to music that you love. It helps you to maintain your Zen when things go pear shaped.

As I'm working in a stock install I'm flying the P47D in external camera mode, and I've discovered that she has a fat arse in a turn, is unstable as all hell, and goes into a spin at the most inappropriate moments. Sounds a bit like my first girlfriend. The hurricane that I use in my Bob install is really quite stable by comparison.
I also have to keep changing my start position in the mission builder to keep up with my progress.

Otherwise it's all good clean fun.

My next beach adventure will be at Bognor Regis due to the proximity of Raf Tangmere, so for now I will be prioritizing coastal beaches near Bob airfields.

Seeing a beach (or any transitional area, for that matter) between the sea and the fields looks so much more natural than the stock CFS3 abrupt change!! (y)

BTW, did you get your AA gun working?

Thanks Frosty.
BTW, did you get your AA gun working?

I haven't looked at it yet. I've been too exited by the results of my 'beach experiment'. I have saved the critical info that you supplied and I hope to get back to the AA gun later this week. The breakwater fort is not finished either, and I wont complete it until I've placed two working guns on the model. I've read that there were 5 guns in the vicinity of the fort, some were outside.

A lot of beach time...I hope you've been applying your factor 50?

In my youth I used to surf, windsurf and paddleski at every opportunity right up to 2008. On weekends I used to hit the surf at 8 am until 3 pm, all this time without sunscreen. Eventually I could see the effects of sun damage and called it quits before I contracted skin cancer. These days the sun is a lot hotter and I prefer doing my surfing online and flying over virtual beaches.

Hey! does anybody know of a good surfing sim?:D

On a different note, I forgot that when you add modules or textures you must activate the zx zapper to properly activate the new content or you get lackluster images like this, from post#490. This effect affects the afternoon texture colours the most.

The zx Zapper shortcut sits on my taskbar and I almost deleted it last week. This morning I realized that the image quality had degraded and I remembered the zapper. I then zapped the crap out of my zx files.

Nasty lackluster image

After activating the zx zapper colours came back to life.

Like night and day..ha ha!

Yes, stupid that you have use the zzapper to get things to work etc. It would be possible to have the zzapper alway run before CFS3 initiates, with a small batch script, so you have a 'clean' game to start with.

The cliffs do actually start just after Folkestone Harbour, if you feel like tweaking.

Those last two pics, just beautiful (Hawkinge and Folkestone looking good). Although I've never seen the English Channel look so clear and tropical! lol.

Cheers

Wonderful. A good job on cleaning up the Tangmere texture and adding the village too. I started a model of the church which is laying around somewhere, I can't make out from the screenie what buildings you have there.

Hi Clive.:)

I don't think that there is a church on that particular village model. I can check later today.

I lost about an hour to two hours work on the other side of Selsey Bill due to a slip in the text editor that I only picked up later. Unfortunately these things happen if you are tired and forget to save your progress. You have to just accept it, learn the lesson, and move on.
