Flying campaign RNAS 8 (lots of clouds and rain), full squad takeoff I might get 12 or 14 fps with planes in sight. Might jump to 20 or 25 with just one or two planes in sight. Forming up over airfield drops to 4 or 5. 2 or 3 over Bertangles (5 airfields). Drops to 7 or 8 over front. I've been tweaking like crazy since I got BHAH but yields only negligable differences. Might be as much as 10% but 10% of 10 or 12 isn't many fps.
Also, I've resorted to using last summer's Omega drivers. They seem to give me a bit better performance than anything ATI has to offer at this time.
I know that my card is probably my main problem, but I get the feeling my CPU is also a bottleneck. Of course, that could also be because of general consensus that these cards aren't using the video ram and/or only 35% of the gpu in certain applications and shunting everything to and from the CPU. FYI, I run other games with no problemsd at all such as Fallout 3, COD4, IL2 1946, call of Juarez, Gun. I do have the same type of issue with Med Air War leading me to stick with my earlier postulation that my video card and it's attendant drivers do not mesh well with CFS3. Thanks for paying attention to all tihis, esp. when it's likely not any of your doing.
