Thanks for the encouraging words guys. I will finish the chipped version and upload a package containing both a clean and chipped version.
Normally, before I start a repaint, I start with reading. As I can't recall I ever did a Japanese repaint before, I had to read a lot. And while doing this repaint I also learned a lot again. As the Raidens were part of the Navy, I used colours from the Japanese Navy. I have chosen for a more blue green (Ao Midori Iro) instead of the more common Dark Green. As always there has been a lot of research, but the debate on colours, mainly based on old black and white pictures, never comes to a satisfying general conclusion. So I just picked what I liked.
The repaint shows the J2M3 flown by the Japanese Ace Sadaaki “Matsu-chan” Akamatsu. According to what I have been reading, he was not quite the standard Japanese pilot. His exact score is unknown, but his final score was most likely around the 30 kills (among which at least one B-29). He survived the war and was 35 in 1945, which is in general, considered reasonably old for a fighter pilot. He flew with 302nd Kokutai from March 1944 until August 1945, both with Mitsubishi A6M5 Zeros and the Mitsubishi J2M3 Raidens.
Before you think I have gone mad, the weird blue greenish colour of the wheel wells and the inside of the wheel covers is done intentional. It is done to represent the semi transparent Aotake the Japanese version of zinc chromate. Aotake was a lacquer made from the sap of the Toxicodendron vernicifluum (Chinese lacquer tree). From what I have been reading, I understood that the anti corrosive qualities from Aotake were even superior to zinc chromate.

The T-Bone as affectionately known not only is a well regarded plane by owners and pilots but IMHO has to be one of the coolest classic Beech twins. Having fun as usual doing little tweaks here and there.

An issue here - the converted model with good windows and props was done by another member here who's name I now don't recall. It is probably not right for me to share without his permission.

I have never been able to do a weathered scheme I like. Factory fresh I can do but weathered is really hard for me. I even downloaded a special paintkit made by David Robles that has a tutorial and reference layers you can use to supposedly make 'weathered' a 'drag & drop' operation but I still suck at it!What Pete said ^! “Weathering” is so subjective that sometimes the artist isn’t even pleased with the work! Both repaints, Huub, look really good, and it’s good to have a choice.
I have three unreleased aircraft for FSX that just need final VC textures making but I haven't been able to find a texture artist to complete the work since Rachael quit the team. The base textures are done, they just need to look a little bit 'lived in'! Nothing extreme, just something to add character rather than flat and boring!
Akamatsu's Raiden is nearly finished, just some minor boring things to do. But I have already started to repaint the perhaps best known Rauden.
The aircraft flown by Lt. Yosihiro Aoki. The yellow lightning bolts show he was the leader of 3rd Buntaichō (a unit of 9 aircraft) from 352 Kōkūtai. On carrier based aircraft, the Buntai leader would have two stripes.
The lightning bolts still have their full size, but with adding the weathering they will get the lenght we know from the pictures form this aircraft

I'm checking daily for this repaint Huub! No pressure of course... only motivation...
While waiting, I've lightened a bit the "Jack" texture in the original Piglet Mitsubishi J2M3 Raiden package here at SOH, too dark to my taste...

Insanely easy! holy moly, now if I can figure out how to get red airforce shield to become white, unfortunately the fill button misses too many pixels with GIMP. Might have to zoom in to 400-800% to isolate the pixels that get skipped over. I think the call sign was a little smaller/skinner font in the above image, its 3 am now. Gotta go to bed! so stoked.
