What about for the J2F5? I only see improvements for the other 2 models, also is it safe to use the aircraft.cfg's included? You have to change the model= entry though.

To Alias a sound to another plane:
Sound.cfg:
[fltsim]
alias=Plane Folder Name\Sound Folder Name

Mine is "alias=North American T-28D/Sound.PW-R2800x1"

That sound set is "FS2004/FSX Single P&W R2800 Sounds"{single_p_w_r2800_sounds.zip} at flightsim...Don

So this is the best sound out there for this duck?
 
Grumman Duck Sounds

I posted this originally, when the aircraft was originally released early last year. (It's also a good match for F3F's and F4F's)

-First, go to Flightsim.com, and download T28snz.zip: http://flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=78766
-Then go here and download the updated sound files for this soundset, by Javis: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...fo&FileID=2911

Install these as outlined.

- Now an additional bit I have done, to make it even more accurate, is add Wildcat gear sounds, which feature the ratcheting/bicycle chain sound of the gear retract/extension on those early Grumman landing gear designs, which you can download here and simply copy and paste into the sound folder you have from the previous steps, overwriting the files by the same name...

My "FSX Grumman J2F Duck 2D Panel" was for the FS9 ported version, but, using it in FSX does work.

Many thanks Chris et al for this. The only thing I have never liked about this masterpiece is that the prop is handled in the Model file, there is no texture to modify it. It doesn't detract from the beauty of the actual model itself, it is just a nit-pick.

Post-War Ducks ...

Separate from the USAF OA-12s, I seem to recall a few rare photos of either USN or USMC Ducks wearing stars AND bars (post '47 markings).

I can't recall if the paint was dark sea blue, or white - I just recall it NOT being the USAF rescue scheme, and the longer cowling.

Does anyone know if they were used by either USN or USMC late enough to use the post-47 markings?

According to the FY reports at the USN Historical Society website the J2F was on hand until 1950. Here's the postwar breakdown:

1948 15 total for Fleet Utility.
1949 8 reserve, 17 active 25 total
1950 2 reserve, 10 active 12 total
1951 gone.

HAHA!! Why did I supect that either you or Helldiver would know the answer to this ... brilliant! I had an inkling .... just no proof - thanks so much.

What did the the Fleet Utility schemes look like? I'm assuming dark sea blue? I'll bet they looked really smart!

I've seen a few shots here and there of post '47 J2F's in overall dark sea blue with the reserves orange-yellow band,as well as U birds attached to seaplane tenders, usually hacks and base flight SAR aircraft, so yup. The photographic record is spotty though, and I expect the late war ducks got field applied repaints as they cycled through maintenance. No claims made for accuracy, I simply wanted some duck repaints for the Solomons and Iwo that did not look grossly out of place.
 
And a wee tweak of the contact points. I found the arse of the float was staying submerged. This gets her butt out of the water(crosses fingers) and changes scrape points to float points( I was getting flying sparks off the water in some places!) Copy and paste.

The USAF also operated a few obtained from the Navy as OA-12's beginning in 1948 as search & rescue

Thats the one Smashing! Its about the only photo I've seen of a post '47 USN duck. The OA-12's are well documented, as are the ARA and Peruvian machines. I'll add a few of 1944-46 ducks. The Antarctic machines are interesting too. The resources I have indicate that the JRF Ducks as well as most seaplanes of the Navy & Marines retained the Tri Color (Semi Gloss Sea Blue FS25042, Intermediate Blue fs35164, Insignia White FS37875) or overall silver with black anti glare panel from mid 43 throughout the rest of the war. Various applications had different levels of the Sea Blue applied. Only fighter aircraft , some patrol bombers, and carrier aircraft converted to the overall Glossy Sea Blue (FS15042) in mid 44 .
The Atlantic Fleet Aircraft used two schemes for all aircraft, Top NS Dark Gull Gray( FS36231), NS Light Gray (FS36440) G Insignia White (FS37875) or Top NS Dark Gray and Sides NS Insignia White, bottom G Insignia white.
