High Definition Clouds from Pablo Diaz!

I still haven't had any performance issue with these clouds, and I'm runnin' them pretty up there, settings-wise. It's awesome that he gave these away, as they pass most payware options by far (at least for that bomb price :d)

How did you get decent frame rates outta Sitka, is my question, Kelso! :d :bump:

Well, if I remember correctly, I was zooming up in this AFG King Air 300 (an other freeware gem btw!) with about 16-18 FPS (locked at 25).
Decent enough for me... :icon_lol:

@ Jamie:
Beautiful shots!
I assume this is Bruno's NFII Mossie?

Cheers,
Markus.

Markus,

thanks, I liked them, but all credit goes to the clouds and the Mossie (Aeroplane Heaven). Possibly the Russian Bloom too, forgot to turn it on until I hit Glasgow on the way from Woodhall Spa (thanks Cees :d) to Benbecula (tonight it's onwards to Reykjavik after topping up the tanks.)

I just joined the clouds club...

A few more...

Very atmospheric, who needs FSX? :icon_lol:

I like this next one, reminds me of the scuddy type of stuff you see in winter from medium altitudes... vectors for the GCA...

BTW Markus, is that the default water textures in your Sitka shot? I'm looking for some better water having just gotten back into FS9 (not to hijack any clouds or anything).

Amazing work on the Sabre, mate! :applause:
Looks great.
We talked about the roundel's position over at the SectionF8 forum (I'm 'JA-111' over there) and this reminds me that my Bluenose Sword still needs to be fixed...

The water around Sitka came with the (very recommended!) Tongass Fjords package by http://www.fsaddon.com.

May I give a humble proposal concerning your RCAF repaints?
I think the alpha channel deserves some tweaking, avoiding the 'shiny' apperance of the roundels and gunports. I did this with my RNoAF Sabres, their alpha looks like the attached one.

Cheers,
Markus.

Yeah, alpha channels are something I've never dealt with, I've never done any skinning in FS9/X before, just IL-2 and recently Aces High II.

With the forums being down over at SF8 I didn't get a chance to follow up about 23707, I eventually found this pic online:

I'm going to have to read up on alpha channels, definitely a must for the gun ports and other openings on the skin, although the RCAF used gloss paint for markings, with the exception of matt paint for the anti-glare panel forward of the canopy. Even the NATO camo was glossy when first applied, although it became duller over time due to UV damage.

Still, there should be a slight decrease in reflectivity of the marked areas when compared to the aluminum skin, even though I've toned down my aluminum to more closely match photos of operational aircraft. The paint kit aluminum is way too polished looking, almost chrome-like, probably due to the textures being taken from a restored Sabre as seen in the airshow circuit these days.

It's been awfully quiet over at SectionF8 lately, I hope they are still planning the 6-3 wing versions, both hard/fenced and slatted. Then we can do some real Mk.5 and Mk.6 repaints! :jump:

Here's a real early Bluenoser to match the model we have:

Note: Other than the 439 Sqn Sabre you may have noticed a lack of code letters and serials on the skins, they are 'intentionally generic' as they are to be used for AI and static purposes in an upcoming project. Stay Tuned... :kilroy:

I'm guessing you have to do the registration thing first before you can download the file. It keeps giving me an error message saying that I do not have permission to download from the site.

Wow, I am still saying that about these clouds. I think the three best things are they are easy on the fps, there are large cloud masses, and the 3d effect. My rig is happy with the second best res set.:applause:

The only time I have had any issue with the HDE Clouds was the other day, during a flight way up north in Alaska. Weather was horrid....all those pretty clouds floating everywhere made it real real real hard to find the airport I was wanting to land at. Took 4 go arounds and heavy use of the GPS to find the airport. Couldn't drop down below the clouds as there was a heavy ground fog and mountains kept jumping up in front of my plane.

Welcome to my IRL world be it Canada or Alaska. As long you brought the bird down in one piece and you made it home for dinner, you won the battle with mean old mother nature.

I know what you're talking about:

Just made a short haul at dawn with my Buffalo C-46 from Hay River to Yellowknife in some nasty FSMETAR conditions:

These two lighted spots in the background are the lighted aprons of Yellowknife with rwy 33 in the middle.
I doubt whether I would have found the strip without ILS...
One note for the "hand-flyers": I use to switch off the AP at about 2000 ft. This one was quite challenging with a crosswind (90°) of 10 knots!

HDE 2.0!

Hi,

I have just seen that Pablo Diaz is already working on HDE 2.0 :jump:

HERE are some great preview pictures.

Greetings
Tim

Reading through the thread the link goes to...Pablo is claiming that the frame rates with HDEV2 will be better than V1, the sky color is more realistic, cloud shapes and colors more detailed and realistic.

I have not had a problem with frame rates using V1, so if V2 offers even better frame rate behavior this is going to be the cloud package of all cloud packages.'
