HMS Bounty Project

You're sure putting a lot of detail in the model. It looks to be one heck of a big project. Not to mention the mapping and textures. The time it will take you to get that done I can't imagine.

Keep up the nice work, Sir. Hope to see it in FSX for the rest of the simmers.

Sasha,

Thank you for your recommendations. Although I have learned a lot about names of tall ship parts and sails, I know nothing about setting sails in different circumstances. If you could draw some examples of your suggestions or communicate with me via PM or Email, I will try to accommodate your wishes.

That is most kind of you sir! I will collect some information and images over the weekend, and send it to you on Monday - I'll be very happy if I can make a small contribution to this wonderful project!

This is a handy device used in the Naval Action game for compass, wind direction, sail position, speed, and status. Does anyone know if there is an official name and device like this. I would like to create a gauge similar for the Bounty.

And why would the compass rose be backwards?

The amount of detail you are putting into this project
is incredible. The Helm/steering wheel looks great.

Anthin.

Not likely I will find any xml guru willing to program this Sail Management Gauge so I am taking a crack at it myself with help from Nigel and Sasha.

This is just rough work without the artwork trying to get the functionality working.

Not much help from me so far, Sir - using the relative calm to press on with PV-2 textures (see thread).

Ready as soon as Sascha and Skipper are happy with the mechanics.

Thank you Sir; still a little work to do setting limits and deciding on whether I can animate sail positions. If so, I will add some more items to the gauge.

Meanwhile I have cleaned up the static model and added stowed sail yards.

These are shots from FS9 and FSX.

Skipper - Loving this whole adventure, Sir.

So glad you did this version - she has a mysterious, serene majesty, especially in those awesome screenshots. :encouragement:

Well, thank you Sir. Even though temporary, the sounds you put together really make the sailing enjoyable. :)

Took an hour (3 actually) from PV-2 textures
to check out Skipper's latest updates.

And a lot of it ... :) Much more could be done but running into limitations. Does not now look like a parts or poly limitations, but after many hours of searching, I have not discovered the issue causing the cryptic message.

Thank you Sir :)

Have we had a mutiny? Are the pirates revolting? Have they been captured by ISIS? Has the ship sunk? Has no-one paid the ransom for Milton yet?

LOL I feel like a powder monkey the way they are working me.

I have been working on animating the sail arms so they can rotate with the wind direction. That required a lot of modeling of running rigging, 10 sets of 11 lines to move with the sails. See attached screenshot in gmax of all that.

In animating the sail arm movements and rigging, I also had to show/hide jibs, spankers, and staysails to show full on the port and starboard sides depending on wind direction.

I also have added 3 animated flags that move with and indicate wind direction. The flags are animated to be lazy ( less than 15 knot winds), active (15-35 knot winds), and very active (winds greater than 35 knots). So flags are shown/hidden based on wind speed.

These things required a lot of xml coding in a gauge or in the model so that has kept me busy with learning xml, research, and testing.

All of that is done now but I still have a few more like things to add to control sails display based on wind speed and direction. Meanwhile Sasha has started on textures so maybe we shall see some progress reports over the next month.

Oh, I forgot to mention that once in port, a simple Set Parking Brake drops anchor and stows the sails. :)

Hi all pirates out there. May 2015 bring plenty of grog & wenches to all.
I'm sure we'll be having much fun this year,,
Blue sky's & calm seas to all..
