Installing, waiting, or sticking with 2020?

After reading about addon incompatibility and the ATC that won't ATC, I think I'm sticking around with 2020 for much longer than I'd originally anticipated.
Same here. I think I'll enjoy 2020 for a little longer than I thought . . . maybe a lot longer.

I'm going to stick with 2020 just because I got on the train late and I'm not totally sold on the all-streaming concept yet.

Once I know more about the Blackbird SR-71 and some of the other addons I use more often than others, and see how they've ported over, I might slide over at some point in the future.

I'll be sticking to FS95. J/K!!!! I'm holding at 2020 for a year at least. I see a lot of bugs, but I'm not sure they are all manufacturer's bugs. I think a lot of them are user error; insufficient internet speeds, settings, controllers, that could be fixed by a simple at-home tweak or setting correction. Some are not. I feel it was put out the door just like every other one - on time, ready or not. I'm getting too old and impatient to play beta tester anymore. After 4 years, even getting a simple AI traffic program that really works for 2020 seems impossible. I may piss some off with this one, but it wouldn't be the first time - I really wish they would have left this as a PC based sim and not turn it into an X-Box arcade game - combining a flight sim with the Pilot Wings game of years ago. Not to sound like a full Debby Downer, I do see some of the most magnificent scenery and aircraft screenshots from those who are encountering little or no problems. They are certainly heading in the right direction with the sim project. Also, with a 200 dollar price tag, one would expect a more problem free program out of the box. This isn't a $29.95 purchase anymore.

Don BP;)

I have been enjoying the most stable and satisfying MSFS 2020 experience lately, mostly because of the Lossless Scaling (on Steam). I don't see going beyond MSFS 2020 in the near future. I also feel like MSFS server is running more smoothly lately.

Like many others, I have been busy with work and life, but I have been keeping an eye on FS24. I will get it eventually, but with that really rough launch, the bugs plaguing default aircraft that should not have them, and the current lack of compatibility support for add-on aircraft; I’m in no hurry to switch from FS20.

The UI is very confusing at first, but I'm learning.

As a user experience designer by trade, that is a sentence that I hunt for when I conduct research, I look for it when I test, and a phrase I never want to hear after release.

No UI is perfect, but egads! A person should not have to struggle to figure out the UI for a game unless that is the game (even then I would call that an excuse for poor design). I haven’t seen the FS24 UI in detail, but your statement modelr supports my perspective that FS24 was rushed out the door.

The problem is they keep adding more and more individual windows for more and more steps that used to be covered in just one or two. Also, they keep adding more and more individual steps/views that are already covered in a simple POV hat. Instead of remembering 3-4 steps/buttons, now we are required to remember literally dozens, to do EVERYTHING that is already done in the main action. Most of this pertains to the camera.

Apparently there's a couple of updates for 24 on the way. We can only hope that they listen to the community.

24 is a keeper for me definitely, but as long as my favourite airplanes aren't available for 24, 2020 is staying installed.

Cheers,

Priller

I've uninstalled 24, it was just too frustrating, and asked for a refund (which they'll probably refuse), so back to 2020!

If you're on Steam, the refund is essentially instant.
It's a good message to send to MS.
Hopefully strong enough for them to rework this debacle.

Been enjoying your repaints since FSX. Knowing that an experienced simmer like you is frustrated with some basic aspects of the new sim just convinces me that it is better to wait before jumping in the bandwagon. Probably 2025 summer sale :D

Sticking with MSFS2020 as I'm spitting feathers at finding the lousy camera system in 2024 is the same. Over complex, over hyped and badly designed. Sheer bloody mindedness. In a moment of frustration I loaded up IL2 1946 B.A.T., a game I had in 2002, no comparison as regards pretty pictures but lot's of fun. The one saving grace in MSFS is the beautiful renditions of classic aircraft by developers such as:

Flying Iron
Flight Replicas
Blackbird
Carenado
Milviz
Just Flight
etc
I tip my hat to them.

I never did think that MSFS2024 was going to be something anywhere near perfect right out of the chocks. But, I'm not hearing much to like even now (I'm mostly listening for smooth operation and support of MSFS2020 add-ons). I spent my $$ on a new 7900 XTX for my "southern rig" instead of going for MSFS2024 yet. It looks like over some time MSFS2024 will become the next bold evolutionary step in home simulators and I will give them more time to do that instead of jumping in now. Thanks for all the reports guys...let me know when MSFS2024 is ready for prime time.

Not planning on buying Fs2024 for at least six months, will see in what state it is by then.

I'm trying to give 2024 a shot. I've been flying pretty steadily for the last few days. It actually becomes more head-scratching the longer I fly it, finding more things that don't work or don't make sense. Hard to say whether or not how much any of it gets fixed.

The one area I've been focusing on is figuring out which of my 2020 MSMP aircraft are actually okay in 2024. I have 42 2020 MSMP aircraft in total.
Out of those only 23 have shown up so far. Still missing are 19 that haven't appeared in my 2024 library yet.

Out of the 23 that have shown up, so far only 6 of them came across without any issues that I've found so far. Some of the others are flyable, but missing pilots, which is common among almost all 2020 aircraft.

To me where 2024 in its current state beats 2020 is down on the ground with the bushes and trees. Makes landing at small airports very cool in jungle/tropical areas where I do most of my flying. Currently is the only thing in 2024 that is making me go wow compared to 2020. At altitude I think it's a toss-up right now. The terrain immediately below the aircraft looks great with all the trees, but the LOD diameter seems smaller than 2020. You can see that in an aerial screenshots where directly around the aircraft it looks great, but not far beyond that it seems more out of focus than 2020.

I'll stick with it for a bit and see how it shakes out. MS needs to address quite a handful of problems that need immediate fixing.

Oh I have both, but for me as it is now, I'm staying with MSFS 2020 until ASOBO/MS right their wrongs with 2024 and get a Developer's Kit for it. Look and these two screenshots, one is MSFS 2020, the other is MSFS 2024. I know which one I am going to continue flying for the time being.

Are those trees?

People,

Anyone noticed the eerie silence on the third party developers' side? I have.

It tells a couple of things. Devs are watching what is happening on the M$ side. M$ is watching what is happening on the user side. They know full well that what they've released is a beta at best.

4 years ago, then release of 2020 was less than optimal, but this is release has been sub par in every sense. M$ have a talent to shoot themselves in the foot, but this one is one of the worst.

On a positive note: M$ is a money making machine and they will do their best to rectify most of the issues.

Was the release of MSFS 2020 this "bad"?

I still have faith that many problems will get fixed, so I haven't refunded, but I haven't installed yet, either. 2020 is still as good as ever for me (with the strange exception that most live traffic seems to be suddenly missing), so I'll stick with it for a while. I'll probably install 2024 in January or February sometime and see how things are then. They should have just delayed the launch, renamed it "MSFS 2025," and actually tested the thing.
Right now, I get the impression that it's a great screenshot generator, but not much of a flight simulator.
