Installing, waiting, or sticking with 2020?

Call me when MSFS 2024 is all sorted out, otherwise we're all just free beta testers for the next several years, as we were for FS2020. Given that I will need a new rig just to run 2024 efficiently, I see no need to switch any time soon. As someone else mentioned, the FS2020 servers seem to be running smoother than ever.

I just wonder how long they will continue to support both sims? I suppose once they stop supporting 2020, I'll make the move. By then the bugs should be worked out. I hope....

I'm keeping MSFS2020 around for now and flying it for some planes.

But I'm doing a lot of bush flying in MSFS 2024 right now and having a lot of fun because it's so much more realistic than FS2020's "you can land just about anywhere." However, I'm staying away from any of the stuff in 2024 that still needs work: Career mode, using FS2020 aircraft/content/etc.

Also, flying the native T-33 in '24 shows the potential once Asobo gets the holes patched up. I got too slow and the handling and death-inducing departure was dramatically close to reality than flying the 2020 version.

So if you have room, you can enjoy both. 2020 if you just want it to mostly work. (2020 has occasional pauses that I've never encountered in 2024.) 2024 if you're willing to stay in the parts that are pretty solid.

I'll switch to MSFS 2024 as soon as they fix the control assignement UIs and improve the catastrophic performance in VR which makes it unusable, especially on ground.
Until then, I'm keeping with MSFS 2020.

I have the Premium Edition of each. Some observations: I still prefer MSFS 2020, much more immersion with all the add-ons I have. I can still develop scenery and liveries in MSFS 2020, can't do either in MS 2024. Now to the plus points for MSFS 2024. It loads much quicker, flight dynamics are better than in MSFS 2020, weather is better in MSFS 2024, especially the clouds. I get better FPS in MSFS 2024, albeit not by much. I find MSFS 2024 flies smoother, I don't have to wait for rolling cache to load. Whiles roads and ground textures are better in MSFS 2024, the real looking surface wither away with the crappy AI homes and buildings and the lack of much Photogrammetry everywhere, guess we'll have to buy all that when the Marketplace finally opens. But when I really want an immersive flight (I like low and slow), I go to MSFS 2020, it still look better overall, ASOBO/M$ need to work on the Photogrammetry and AI bad. My home regional airport only has three buildings and one is a firehouse not even related to the airport. I built scenery for it and Blue Ridge, which is also sad amiss of any structures in MSFS 2024. Needless to say MSFS 2024 was released too soon and needs to be corrected and polished quite a bit.

Despite the initial bumps, seems the prognosis is good, albeit with a lot of work still to come.
Surprisingly, my neck of the woods got some very good reviews:

I've bought it, installed it, struggled with it. The binding chaos, nothing saves. I spent far more time on the parking spot trying to get my cameras and joystick to work than flying. I'm disappointed in '24 so far. It's just frustrating every time I open it. I'm ignoring it for now, and going back to the refined 2020 with all my sceneries and liveries, none of which can be used in '24 because of the LOD thing, and the new texture formats, I can't even find the aircraft or scenery folders anyway and going from the SDK samples, I'd have to rework everything beyond my comprehension. It's currently a 150 dollars worth of bloatware on my computer right now.. But hey, I got a good avatar out of it. Looks like Capt. Robert De Niro, warbird airshow pilot.

I have been experimenting a bit with it but for the last two days when I try to load it, it gets stuck at 68%/Loading World Data and cant get past it.

I work in IT, there is nothing that I love more than updates and innovation. Eventually, I'll come to love this sim, but lordy, I don't love it now!

So glad I kept 2020!

Mine does that each time there is an update, if it doesn't crrash. I found I can uninstall using the Windows uninstaller, and reinstall. Takes me about 15 minutes from start uninstall to ready to fly again.

I'm with Fnerg. I'm back to 2020. I'm getting too old to learn new tricks.
I love the low and slow visuals of flying with 2024, but the hassle of getting in the air and the inability to modify even the smallest things have worn on me.

I was too old 4 years ago.....! I've read much of this thread and it reminds me of a new (American) blood analyser I had to put into service in 1967. Same thing. Early adopters being used to develop a prototype into a usable product. So, no change in nearly 60 years at least..

Couple months ago I stopped buying MSFS2020 add-ons in anticipation of MSFS2024. I stopped stopping buying MSFS202 add-ons a couple days ago (Black Friday sales combined with catastrophic MSFS2024 launch). Old dog not learning new tricks and focusing on another sim (DCS). Still having a great time with MSFS2020.

Personally, I'm just waiting to have enough of free time available to dive into the new sim, to get to learn it and to change those blasted controller assignments.

And in the meantime, I still have my wonderfully looking and performing MSFS2020 for my flying fix. This also buys me enough time to read and watch vids on the web to learn stuff about the latest iteration of the sim.

Cheers,

I 'm with you, I am very happy with my 2020 where everything works as it should, and where you can even make repaints for all aircraft. Maybe I'll try again in a years time, but the few times I managed to fly in 24, I was not impressed, mainly due to the unpredictability and the poor textures, on the ground and on the aircraft, so I struggled to see the improvement wrt to 2020

Honestly, M$ have quite a few things to iron out and maybe in 6 months or a year, it will be good. But let's face it, the release of 2020 wasn't exactly a walk in the park for most of us either.

2020 still has its quirks from time to time.

In this day and age, software providers have changed their business models whereby, after initial release, the users are the beta testers. That is true for almost every single piece of software released nowadays.
