MASH 4077 scenery

Anybody remember what the character's name was that flew the H-13 with the dummy in one of the litters when he only had one patient?
Also do you remember the time that Father Maulcahy flew with him because something happened to the dummy?

"Little Mac" was the name of the dummy, named after MacArthur. In a prank, "Little Mac" ended up on top of Margaret in bed, and then she proceeded to beat Pierce and Honeycutt with it, trashing the dummy in the process. That's why the good father went airborne...

The pilot's name was Toby-something, who miffed Fr. Mulcahy while they were both in the shower because Toby the heli pilot made two promotions within 6 months, and Mulcahy had kept getting passed over for promos at review time.

Great scenery, thank you for making it. I'm still looking for the aid station though...:mixedsmi:

Jeez Randy. What is in those drums? :icon_lol:

Geeez Don, like duh! It's agent "yellow." Either that or really high octane av gas.:icon_lol: :icon_lol:

Great "staged" screen shot there. Oh wait you found the aid station at night due to your highly tuned helicopter piloting skills and 20/10 eyeballs.:medals:

Whoops, just spilt my morning coffee all over my keyboard....

I'd hate to spill some of that stuff! :icon_eek:

Not staged! Didn't find it in the dark either. Now that would be an accomplishment. :icon_lol:
Simply didn't hit "Pause" last night! That's what I woke up to. Had to Save that one...Don

I know M*A*S*H was fictional but it was based in part upon real life events and I don't recall ever seeing an episode where the choppers flew at night.
As I remember the episodes, causalties arrived by ambulance at night.

I doubt there was much "real life" night time chopper flying in those mountains with an almost total lack of navigational beacons, etc.

TuFun, this one's for you. :salute: Thank You...Only problem seems to be that Rosie has closed up and left.:pop4:

Jeep Lites are good

TuFun.

If you are reading this, I think I cracked that nut on the light issue. From your suggestion, I did some plumbing work (editing) on your Jeep fx file.
Whats ya think man? I think it's almost as good as yours :icon_lol: Thanks for putting up with my nagging you on how to make this work on my rig. :icon_lol::salute::wavey:

Any one know the secret to opening the file on the JEEP, I would like to Change the color to a darker OD, and do the same thing to the lights as done in the screen above.....

OK, FWIW, this might be my only valuable contribution to this project. But, the character helicopter pilot who flew with the counterweight dummy was "Captain Toby Hill." The episode was titled, "An Eye for a Tooth" and was featured in season 7, episode 13. It aired on 11 Dec 1978. The actor who played the part was Peter Palmer.

You guys are welcome and looks like you got it setup right FSX68!

Thought you might wish to know about night CASEVAC by helicopter in the Korean War. I did a small bit of research and found some information.

On page 16 of this PDF linked document there is information that the first night helo CASEVAC mission was flown by Marines on 8 August 1950. It was flown by HO-35 helicopters on orders of Captain Victor A. Armstrong, who commanded a detachment of these Marine helicopters. One sortie was flown and it picked up one severely wounded Marine and the Regimental Surgeon. The flight was guided inflight by flares to mark the necessary flight path, and the landing was aided by headlights from parked vehicles.

The other point made is that this was the first of over 1,000 night helicopter CASEVAC missions flown in Korea! Further, the document states that many of these missions were flown into frontline makeshift landing strips! Words of mine can barely express the kind of courage this took as these aircraft were not even equipped with the full compliment of basic instruments required even in 1950 for night flying! Just goes to show what kind of heroism men are capable of showing when they are seeking to save the lives of others!

The 4077th and hawkeye must be lost with BJ being stuck in KIMPO.....:icon_lol:
At lest that's the last place I seen his red motorcycle

We both agreed that the "right" place was Korea.
RD

I must say that even though I agree with Randy that the rightful place for the MASH scenery is in Korea, being an old movie guy I couldn't resist putting RD, MCD, and Gdavis's hard work to use to assemble a "Malibu Mash".

My basic SoCal scenery is BlueSky photoscenery so I did a little interpolation of the terrain down near the creek bed and the hand drawn map and tried to place the 4077 in a logical position. Even though I have hiked the actual location, I have no idea if this is even correct. It is "notional" as they say.

As these things go, I did become obsessed with a few small (some would say unimportant) details. Since it's a virtual world anyway I like to imbed a little story and character in it.

The first shot is the default FSX scenery but with a terrain polygon with Flatten Mask Class Map Exclude Autogen properties. Pretty ugly but it clearly shows the camp object layout well. From a security standpoint I feel a little vulnerable here so a perimeter fence may be in order.

This one shows the camp with the BlueSky photoscenery and mesh. I tried to some extent to utilize visible road or path tracks. It's not very visible here but there is an upper and low helipad.

This one shows the camp with the default FSX land texture showing through. (Is that what they mean by Land Class?) Not terribly realistic. Reminds of a camo jacket pattern I have hanging in my closet.

Just liked this shot. Great work Randy!!!

The MP's are ready for any rowdiness at Rosie's tonight.

I just couldn't resist. Any idea what's in those barrels?

Anyway thanks again to all the creative talents involved in MASH and Kimpo. If anyone is interested in my ADEX for Malibu MASH 4077 just PM me.
