MiG-21F13 released

Speed Brake

Figured out the speed brakes. Press the / key and they
will deploy (under the belly of the A/C).

To cut or detach the deployed drogue chute I am still
scratching my head....mmmmmm......:isadizzy:

Left console, I think a yellow handle.
That should be the one that retracts the chute.

I think the manual also mentioned that.

There must be a trick obviously since "Addon Converter X" from Flightsimtools.com can make them visible.
You can check this out on their demo.

I think Addon Converter X was more about texture format or so than about a natively compiled model for FSX.

It does more than that. It makes some texture conversion in the "preprocessing" stage if needed. But it does something more (in the background?). It created a cache folder with undecypherable *.dat files and needs to be called by FSX to work.
It can have some problems with too dark alpha channels. Altering them beforehand from black to gray doesn't work.
There's a neat trick behind it that I'd die to know.
On the Mig 21 it works like a charm...

Does it make FS9 models recognize .dds files?

Then it also hacks into the model file and messes around there.

P.S: Are we talking about the same "Beerland" in our locations? :icon_lol:

Yeah, same land of beer, just on the other side... "wo die Kühe noch glücklich sind" = Allgäu.

Anyway, did some nice flights in the Mig but my FS9 mdl days are definitely over so the Mig had to go.
Win7 + DX10 + 64 bit + fast rig + FTX = FSX as it should have been from the start.
The only thing I miss from DX9 is the HDR hack.

Ah. In case you don't know there's a FSX scenery for "Allgäu Intl" aka Memmingen out there.

For me as well, but the 21 is too got to be left aside.

Thanks for the tip... as a Memminger of course I do have Marcus Carra's fantastic rendition of EDJA (I live underneath the Final to RWY 06, ca. 700 m from the threshold :icon_lol:).
I'm eagerly awaiting Carra's rendition of Kempten-Durach (EDMK) though where my RL flying is based from.

And I'm praying someone would make an FSX version of the Robin DR400 which I mostly use to render German airspace unsafe...

Hehe, thought so. But better to be safe than sorry. :d

With all this talk of the lovely MF, I thought I'd resurrect this superb thread ... some great paints by Zsolt and Safranek .... to name a few.

2 questions ...

1) I seem to recall an english startup/POH somewhere ... I read the whole thread, and saw some pictures - but I thought something more complete had been done - anyone know?

2) There's reference to some SteveB (Stalin) repaints in the thread - anyone know where on the SOH archive they are? Looked high and low ....

cheers,

dl

two issues:

1. Anyone else noticed that the attitude indicator shows pitch up/down, but not roll? I know Russian gauges are a bit different, but the MF version works fine .... am I missing something? The fact that it's for FS9 originally?

2. A/B effect. I have subbed out various reheat effects countless times - this time, I'm stumped. I really like the MF's effect - so, intending to copy that over, I found that both share the same effect file:

light.0=9, -17.00, 0.0, -0.55, fx_mig21forsaz,

how can this be? The MF effect is completely different (redder, smaller,)

thanks,

dl

I haven't flown it for a awhile though it is parked in the hanger right next to the new MF. Will have to do so and look at the attitude indicator. If it isn't a part of the model perhaps one from another MiG could be substituted?

Can the AB effect from the MF be swapped into this one?
:ernae:

Thanks Frank - you're always so helpful. Please let me know how your hop goes. If indeed the AI doesn't work for you either, then it is indeed a legitimate bug, and then I may have to try my hand at gauge swapping - ideally, the MF AI would be the best, I presume?

The AB issues is weird. Maybe I didn't communicate it well. On both the F and MF, the reheat effect appears to be the same entry in the aircraft.cfg:

light.0=9, -17.00, 0.0, -0.55, fx_mig21forsaz,

So, I've done reheat effect swaps all the time, even experimented with repositioning them, etc. But in this case, it appears the same effect is used for both planes - yet as you know, they look completely different. In the MF, it's smaller, darker, deep orange, with nice small shock "diamonds", etc., instead of that massive yellow early FS9-type effect.

As a test, I know the fx_mig21forsaz is indeed the AB effect - I swapped it out and tried another - and that other effect showed up (I tried the F-105 - too big, but it was just to test that I was tinkering with the right effect).

Does that explain the problem on the AB better?

thx,

dl

Well, I thought I'd try swapping out the Attitude Indicator myself ...

First, a general question. If a panel.cfg has both a "main panel" and a "vcockpit", I'm assuming, I'd assume that I'd want to sub the offending gauge out of both, correct?

1) Looking at the panel.cfg of the recipient - the F model - I don't see anything that looks like a attitude indicator/artificial horizon.

2) Looking at the donor panel.cfg - the new MF model - I see very few flight gauges. I am right in assuming this is what Frank refers to the gauges being "part of the model", and that I cannot borrow from this model?

3) Suggestions on a suitable alternative? Ideally, the same funky Russian style AI style ...

Sorry this is painful - but surely all you guys still flying the F model must have had to deal with this ...

thanks,

dl

1) The gauge in question is "MiG21F13!Attitude" under [VCockpit02].
2) Yea, the attitude gauge in the MiG-21MF is built in to the model so it isn't going anywhere.
3) Not so much funky, just pure Russian style. It's a quite complex gauge if it's all there and more for information than attitude.

Like yourself I'm suprised no one noticed and fixed this problem. It should be an easy fix if you have the right gauge to plug in there. Just need to find a freeware MiG- or Su- panel with the right gauge that is compatible with FSX.
