Mustangs are go!

Great looking repaint Stephan! I am not sure when the paintkit will be made available, though I have sent it off, complete with a set of invasion stripes, as requested, and blank copies of the placard textures, so that any repainter can easily add in the correct details of the actual aircraft - both from Inglewood and Dallas, depending on the model.

This is the first repaint that I will release, which overwrites the default factory scheme. It is also what the paintkit will look like and what the FSX fatory version resembles. This new version incorporates some subtle panel changes, sealant laquer over the decals - which was quickly applied by brush at the factory, and acid etching around spot-welded subassemblies - also done at the factory.

I also have had this sitting around since the summer, and I'll make it available for those who want to fly Jack Roush's restored example of Old Crow. While researching the original Old Crow paint scheme, I found out that the aircraft itself, which was the second Old Crow that Bud flew, came to England in bare metal, and the 357th used several different green and gray paints they could find to paint it and others. The color that I chose for the green, came from a piece of fabric that still survives from one of the 357th FG P-51B's.

Excellent stuff John!
However...if I might just make one remark...the original Old Crow, on the pics that I have, has no exhaust shrouds. I know you strive for perfection, so I hope you don't take offence..oops, just found one with them on...
anyway, maybe an idea for the FSX version, one model with and one without exhaust shrouds...?
Still anxiously awaiting the FSX version...

Albert,
I would like to purchase one of you boxed 'Flight Leader' set for the P-51. However, when I attempt to send you monies through Pay Pal, the message comes back that your e-mail address (ie warbirdsim.com) is invalid.
Any other means of getting money to you short of sending a UK cheque?

I have to admit that I am a little confused. (I'm entitled at my age, you knnow. :costumes:)

What can we expect for repaints?

The work that Bomber has shared looks great. But I got the impression that they are updates to the textures that came with the package (at $67.79 USD I might add).

I am really, really interested in additional textures. So, are we not seeing new textures because of __________ (fill in the blank on what you know).

Can someone enlighten me? (if that's even possible these days :d)

Thanks

John, I just found out that my flagship of the fleet, 37116 is a historical repaint. It's the first P-51B batch of ships with the Packard in it. I saw my plane in the Mustang section of a little WWII book at Barnes today; SO COOL! Nice mate :ernae:

WH, the paintkit has not been made available yet, and I am sure that is what is holding up repaints for the time being. The paintkit itself will be available to those who have purchased the aircraft. The restrictions on the release of repaints are almost nilch...uploading them here at SOH, or at Flightsim.com and Avsim is perfectly fine.

I made this product because of my own interest in the history of the P-51B/C, not because someone asked me to make it, so I still have a lot of enthusiasm for everything related to them. The chance to finally paint the aircraft, and level there of, that I have always wanted, brings me joy, so expect to see continued releases of repaints from me. The only 'updated' repaint is the factory scheme, because I felt it would be nice to add a couple of minor details to enhance the experience. It is definitely not necessary, but I figured the detailers would be most interested.

Again I want to thank everyone who has purchased the aircraft, and especially those who have expressed their feelings about it...every message on the forums and every e-mail is valued.

PT, I was actually not aware of that fact, but thank you for sharing it! The main reason why I decided to choose that particular aircraft above any other is because for some reason I was able to collect more photos of it than any other factory fresh example, I believe four photos in all. Researching its history, unfortunately all I could find was its crash report, which included details about it serving with the iconic 23rd Fighter Group, in China.

Thanks, Bomber. I, too, have a lot of enthusiasm for what you have done. Do you plan to make some additional textures available?

I think the bottom photo you posted is the one from the book. I can't say it enough, Bomber, you've just captured this plane. I simply am tickled nuts by this thing.

Well done. And, safety wire!?!?! :d You actually got detail down to that level! :d I've worked on a couple planes, and safety wired a number of things, and it just shows you know your stuff. :ernae:

Bomber, I don't know if this is an historical mistake or if it was very late when you did this but this "Emergancy" is very mysterious...

Paints

Hi Folks!

The Paintkit will be made available as an executable file.
But what we will do is announce it when this is ready and we would ask that you email support with your order details and we will send it to you.

The reasons for this are very simple. We were up to the eleventh hour, going to have a security activation program for these Mustangs.
We decided in an effort to trust the community that we would drop this and release the models.
Within 24hrs it was on the pirate sites!
We definately do not want these aircraft passed around any more, and in effort to alleviate this we are only going to make it available to paying customers only!
We will then upload the repaints at Warbirdsim.com and a couple of the main sites.
We trust this will make perfect sense to all of you who are enjoying our Mustangs.
We will post news on the paintkits as soon as they are ready.

Happy Landings!
Albert
