Special Server Maintenance
Just when you think you have everything running some what better...
You get a message from the Hosting company. Short story they need to move us to a new server. I have been working with them to plan a good date for all concerned. Here is what we have come up with as a schedule.
- November 4th 17:00 -5UTC shut off the forums and start backup proceedures. During this time there will be no access to the forums or the Resource Section.
- November 5th Continue with Backups and download same until complete.
- November 6th 7:00 turn over server to hosting company to move system to new server
- November 7th - 8th restore backups and upgrade forum software.
If all goes well we should be back online on November 8th.
To keep you updated we will post updates on AVSIM forums.

- I realised that the 'line' may also be caused by the paintwork.But thanks for your trouble and the heads-up!! I visited that MAAM P-61 site and saw some interesting piccies of the interior. Imagine flying in the dark and stalking the enemy with a pair of nightvision bino's in front of you!

It's surprising how glossy the black actually was, isn't it?
It's hard to get it to look right in the sim, but Ankors work makes the skins look so much better. From the look of your screenshot you could go a bit further, but the trick is not to go too far, high gloss black can look a little un-natural in the sim?
I can't run the shaders yet, but I'm working on it. Then I can have a better play around, instead of guessing, or asking for screenshots to see what my paint looks like? lol Be interesting to see what you come up with, if you decide to tweak it, personally I think it looks nice as is?

Yes the picture is interesting concerning paint, shine and sheen. A lot of sim people think that because camo is fairly matt and worn paint is matt, then ac are flat non-reflecting things. This is far from the reality, as almost everything, even the F117 Stealth fighter has some sheen to it in the right lit circumstances.
The P61 picture really shows four places of refection, the radome, the cowling, the props and the ext fuel tank. The radome of the P61 was perspex/early plastic, (which was not always painted (which they thought helped the radar waves to propagate/radiate better)) this one is. So this would be shinier than the rest of the metal fuselage, being plastic. If you look the top half, which is the plastic section is shiney, whilst the lower half is more matt, which is metal. The cowling, prop and drop tank is where the air hits it hard and there's a lot of oil and heat, which would create a polished sheen. In the case of the prop maybe Hamilton (et al) used shinier harder wearing paint to protect their props in this harsh environment?
In Gmax and FSDS you can set parts to have different shine/reflection, but I think that only works well in Fs9 and FSX.
I think the new CFS3 P61 looks about right....you know what they say, a little (Mr) Sheen goes a long way......and sim ac look so much better for it!

Yep you are right everything will have an amount of sheen to it, the tricky bit regards sims is getting that to look natural, not always easy!
CFS3 was good with an XP system, it made use of a speculative texture, and you could get good results if you spent a bit of time on it. You could easily make any bits you wanted with varying amounts of shine, it worked very well, but with W7 and above the s texture no longer works, but I believe that is being worked on with the new shaders, so it may be back?
I've seen photos of P-61's with the morning light shining through the clear radomes, looks really odd! lol
