Glad you like it, dvj ....;)

Meanwhile....since the XB-70 is one of my all-time fave aircraft [I can remember the News reports of the mid-air] ..... playing with a NASA ver.....XA-12, anyone? ....;)

Love it! Glad you went with the earlier NASA lettering, rather than the 80's red worms style.

Meatball looks huge - but that's just opinion.

Really captured the essence of that mid-sixties test vehicle look. Will be all over this if you release this!

Many thanks,

DL

DL ....yes, I was sucked in by a trendy '3D' graphic.....but I recovered....
The old NASA lettering is likely an anachronisim....but it suits.

Bit more to fiddle with....cos I'm aiming for a 'prototype' look ...so will rework the alpha to 'dull' bits....;)

Hello Jafo!

Reallyl like the new look. I'm thrilled you're also picturing a "prototype" versus "billboard" - we're definitely on the same page. Curious you say anachronistic - which is true based on the cockpit. But I'm contemplating transplanting in a different VC in, to take the vehicle back to something that might have surfaced in the 60s or 70s. The windscreen frame common on most period aircraft pose a challenge, but something like the Piglet's F-5 or something on that vein may work.

Anyway - kudos on the progress - and thanks for the paint!

Regards,

DL....
Still haven't altered parts of the shine....but I think I'm finished with the 'paint'....

View attachment 70415 ...redid the NASA text, and put in several 'notes' re explosive charges, etc. 92-001 seems 'about right' ...;)

Edit..... finished. Got 'carried away' and added signatures to the canopy [from X15 pilot autographs]. Will upload soonish.

Looks cooooool!

Like the Dryden logo - looks good. Did you intend to not include the hyphen between the XA and the 12A? That's about all I say ... bravo!

Fantastic! Not crazy about that General Dynamics blue banner, but hey, I'll take it! :jump::jump::jump:

I'd go as far to suggest that you offer a 50's flying wing like poished skin, but this on is the dog's bolli....

I was already toying with the idea of 'hollow' text only for the GD ....the blue stripe worked better in the other skins that had more solid colouring....

Re 'metal'...the US of that one has a couple of 'unpainted' panels ... but not every model takes metal [chrome] as well as others....no spec bmp...;)

Edit....

View attachment 70451 hollow lettering...;)

A 'quick go' at metal....using the skin that was loaded at the time.....
Possibly with some delicate tweaking it can be plausible....though the 'flat' or expansive sheet metal look currently reflects without the right detail....needs more deliberate variation....

I actually like the look of that. Looks more "proto" to my eyes anyway.

Wow - I hope you don't consider the NASA paint your "problem project/project from hell!" :icon_lol:

To be honest, when I first thought of it a few weeks back, I had a bare metal type concept in my head, along the lines of the ealier MF-2F, MF-F2/3, HL-10, etc. lifting bodies. IHowever, since I saw all the other paints were "fully painted", I assumed bare metal - or even a facsimile, would not be doable. Hence why I posted a painted X-24B (rather than the earlier unpainted) scheme. So that it's evolved to what it looks like now is just fantastic.

I'm happy with where it's headed - love that it's evolved into a "test vehicle" type concept. The contractor decals aren't really my thing either - but again, beggars can't be choosers. Thanks so very much!

It's gonna become the-skin-I-just-couldn't-get-beyond ......

Perhaps I keep at the metal ver .... and release both.
I'd always preferred my Tbirds skins to be metal-and-paint.....like the style of the F105 Tbird Tbirds
....so that one, too ....;)

Edit....
Managed to be a little more happy with the look....but the expanse of one-type of shine/reflection adversely affects detail and scale....particularly the underside.....so there's a lot more to do....

I took out the 'General Dynamics' ....but left the MD
Going to need a black no-shine nose now.....

OK...it looks like it's going to work.
Aliased text on a reflective surface is 'annoying' at this resolution/detail. I'll have a go at doing the trans and main both at even higher res unaliased....then shrink. [it's my notes re fuel and explosive charges....tiny fonts] Other than that, large variation in the trans tones breaks the bland metal look.

View attachment 70521

Edit....finished.
Looks like I'll upload both vers....essentially only difference is the metal and text detail.

You're likely going to hate me for this ....

But on reviewing this further, mightn't it make more sense if the "NASA" flashes went the other way - so you read them right side up when you're looking from the side looking inward - right now, they read right side up when looking outward from the inside (if that makes sense). Basically 180deg flip.

If not doable, no sweat ....

I'm running away now ... :)

MANY kind thanks,

DL
