Rise of Flight, anybody?

at 50m gun convergence after three short bursts - maybe 25 rounds gone

I was setting my convergence to 250, I guess the smaller caliber bullet just isn't effective at long ranges, will try the closer convergence settings, nice shots Heywooood!

I see a lot of people saying the damage model is soooo realistic. Yet I've heard driving the plane into the ground doesn't obliterate it....

I watched a crash test video on You Tube where the plane crashed into a train opposite direction head on - the plane bounced off of it...that's hardly realistic.

Also I've seen a lot of shots showing planes crashed but they look the same.

And I read some reviews describing the single player as a WIP.... how is the single player?

closer the better Bob - at least thats the stuff I have read on the WWI airwar...

the secret to using the N28 effectively...get behind those guns

Is there any night flying, or late dusk flights?

the shots above are at dusk - you can do just about any scenario with the mission builder.

not much night flying in WWI - the kites were barely stable enough and had no lights at all...but early dawn and late dusk is well represented in RoF - the lighting effects and self-shadowing in this sim are peerless.

As to planes bouncing off of trains - yes I have seen the vids - but lets just suppose for an instant that RoF was perfect right from day one. All the physics modeling, all the campaigns, all the environments, all the MP and SP elements... just all of it - perfect.

would you have paid just $39 ??? or would it have cost $390.00 ?

Does anyone really expect that kind of perfection for $39 ?

The best thing to do with RoF is to take what it gives you - and then know that its developers are going to keep on giving you more...and be happy.

or not. :guinness: ...its all up to the individual and so far I'm very satisfied

Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes! Anything else is a waste of ammo! I like about 75m myself, when you hit'em they stay hit.

Thanks Bob - you know the convergence setting in RoF is in meters and if you are at 250 meters - thats like the length of a football field.

Most pilots just starting out would have their guns set at about 250' or so...and then - as they got better at at flying and could get closer to their adversary - they would have the convergence reduced.

The idea is that at close range the rounds have far more energy than they do at a greater distance - so naturally the farther the convergence the less damage the focused fire could do...

Conversely focused fire at close range is exponentially more powerful and lethal to the target - so it becomes a matter of flying skill.

A pilot who can stay glued to his adversaries tail and 'reel him in' would want his gunfire to converge at that shorter range so he could be that much more effective while using fewer rounds.

Balloon busters would set the longer convergence so as to light up the bag and still have time to avoid the fireball - but a fighter pilot is more apt to have the minimal settings

You got to remember, these planes were light, so light you could tip them over by yourself, so even with the engine dead and a wing off, you probably don't reach maximum velocity and when you hit the ground, they crumple more than shatter, so I'd say the physics are pretty well on.

The only problem I have with the new patch is that all my control settings were changed and I still haven't gotten them back the way they were. Every time I try to change on thing something else gets inverted, mainly throttle and rudder. I did find out that enabling V-synch makes panning alot more smooth with TrackIR.

Scratch, what is V-synch?

Yep, the update reset EVERYTHING. I couldnt remember my password for a while, lol...

What sensitivity settings are you guys using (in the settings menu after you click the desktop icon)? Just after I installed the game I had a case of food-poisoning so I haven’t really been experimenting yet, but I intend to go through a number of values until I arrive at something satisfactory for my Cougar. If one uses a linear relationship between stick deflection and control displacement, there might even be one optimal value to suit all high-quality joysticks I guess.

Oops, I discovered that the sensitivity merely applied to the mouse! When I fired up the game a week ago the planes reacted so slowly that they were virtually uncontrollable Now, a few updates down the road, they seem to react much better, although a bit twitchy. I flew a real Tiger Moth a few times and I can imagine that the behaviour is fine when the seat you’re in really moves. But in a desk seat it feels a bit nervous. But I’m sure one can get used to that quite easily.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

OT: Scratch, ordered my kindle this weekend it should be here in a few days!:jump: Can't wait for the beast to show up! I've already started my library. What do you think of the WSJ subsricption?

You're gonna love it, I promise. The Wall Street Journal is the only paper they offer that I trust to be objective. Reading it on the Kindle goes alot faster without manhandling all those paper pages. If you can get PMs again I can send you some links to get thousands of books for free, all legal of course.

PM's should be working......try it out.
