Tailwind Released!

I see Update 2 on the site. I tried it. General Realism back to 100% and Crash detection on - I did. It wrapped up in a nice little ball.

Really weird ..my FSX Tailwind just flys fine with the orginal FDE files ..BUT my FS9 Tailwind (which is my main sim) is very difficult to T/O (ground loops) and likes to make the odd right hand dive into the ground which I find it difficult to pull out of..and this is with the revised FDE..strange how people have different results on diffrent set ups ..it must be h..ll for Bill to work out.....:kilroy:
 
Guys, I was having problems with it yesterday and then realized I had some pretty strong gusts in the sim and had forgot I put them in, I turned them off and had no problem except for having to compensate for prop torque which seems normal, you might want to check what your wind is at because this is a light aircraft. :ernae:

Have you sorted out the repaint for the interior? Rode my bike Friday afternoon and guess what I saw on the tarmac at Danville Regional? A Tailwind! Don't recall seeing it there before, must drive by in the morning on the way to the bank. If it's still there, I'll get some photos. I have no problems getting on the tarmac, I know everyone at the airport and they all know me! I've been a fixture there since the late 1950s! :icon_lol:

That would be great if its no bother. To at least have the tail number would be good. I could track it then.

I wonder if its one of the birds I have photos of.

They are planning a big 'to do' get-to-gether at a place called Baraboo, where ever that is...

Concerning those wishing the interior repaint kit, it is uploading as I speak. Somehow I didnt upload it to my server, and I was away from the house all weekend, so I didnt have access to the biz files to upload it. Should be ready about 10 min's after this posting.

I'm interested in the paint with the green ribbons. I can't see the whole reg number but the last two digits are 77.

Couple of comments regarding takeoff. I tried this multiple times, and I found a conclusion that may help people taking her off that is repeatable on my end. If you takeoff and immediately push the stick forward, to get the nose down, the plane becomes uncontrollable almost immediately. Almost no rudder input can correct during the takeoff roll. I found however that if I pull the stick back, keeping the tailwheel planted firmly, and ONLY lowering the nose when necessary, the aircraft was completely and utterly controllable.

Give it a try and see if it works for you. I certainly had takeoff problems until I kept the stick held back.

Oh well, upon my recent testing of different settings, I spent the last three flights in the wonderful Viking, as it yelled at me for not flying it recently. I better check-out update #2 and take a 'hop' in the Tailwind tomorrow night.....with or without those nice fancy smancy repaints :kilroy:

Bill, I have not checked out the now lockable tailwheel yet since version #1 (you know, that Viking wanting to be flown and all :icon_lol: ). If you hold back on the stick, does it automatically lock? IIRC, one of my taildraggers does this...the A2A Mustang???

Features extreme weathering and grunge, cabin intake vents, and cowling with oil check access door.

Hey guys,


For those having issues on take-offs, here is something to try if you dont mind an experiment.

Open your 'aircraft.cfg' file in the Tailwind of choice, scroll down to the Flight Tuning section, go to 'rudder effectiveness' and edit it from 0.7 to 1.0, boot up a flight in that type Tailwind, and try some take-offs.


For me, when taking off, keeping her on the right track, I tap the breaks with rudder and it immediately steers back to where she needs to be. But with some increased rudder, this might take away the need for toe braking/steering for alot of you.

Ive tried the changes to the rudder effectiveness in FS9 (the FSX version is fine on my system as it is ) ..whilst still tricky and still having the odd ground loop if I don't concentrate ....I do have a lot more success in taking off if I do the toe tapping dance on the differential braking and slowly ease the throttle forward...it does like to dip its wing a bit too after take off

What an awesome plane!.... :medals: Another Lionheart Creations' masterpiece! I confess that I am not an expert flying her, I spin on my take offs and land on the grass face down, for maybe 25 times.... (when i went for a smoke break) my daughter sat on my computer and flew her with such an ease and she's only 8 years old! Man, she gave me a few take off points and i flew her with ease.... with gracefulness... swiftness... (on her own speed)... man she is an awesome aircraft!

Now, i have to work on my landings! I have issues- I can't land her without scraping the left tire, I know its all about me... if only I knew how to land her without hurting her.... I might need my daughter's expertise on landings (LOL)....

Thanks Lionheart for a real GREAT product! I give it a 10! My daughter enjoys her as well.... (I better let her off my computer!)

Many thanks for the kind words.

I am redoing the airfiles to be more gentler to people that are spinning out. This one should keep you straight down the runway without getting wild, lands more gently.

I made this film to show what it handles like. This is with 'no' (none) toe braking. Only rudder control. Three hops down the runway, EDDS airport.


I was going to do all external views, one shot, and show the settings are cranked to maximum, but Fraps wouldnt/cant show the FSX menu when its popped down, so it wasnt worth it then to have just a single shot vid..

The new airfiles are ready for testing. I'll post them shortly.

I am positive the the aircrarft you made is very friendly to fly! I am an FSX/FS9 challenged, so much so I am a computer challenged as well! I thank you for the video you shared to us, this will make my flying smother as soon as i learn the tricks!

My spinning is not a product of the airfiles, it is somehow how people handle the aircraft! I have proven it, every person and every computer is different, I just have to learn how to fly.... (my daughter can fly well, so can I). I need a lot of expertise. You cannot design and redesign your aircraft for every computer/every person. I have to know and learn how the rudder control works.... the settings... and much more... it does mean that whatever problem I am encountering with my flight doesnt mean, everyone else has the same issue. (my 2 cents)

So chill out!... And thanks for the concern.... I just want to share how beautiful the Tailwind is and ALL the products that came from Lionheart Creations!
