Tailwind Released!

ok well....I'm not sure. Hopefully the process of elimination will work and I'll find the issue gauge.

There aren't that many from which to choose...

My technique is to comment out about 1/2 of the gauges and test. This will eliminate 50% of the possibilities in one shot. :ernae:

I have mine and I can't say enough! This thing is a sweetheart! The only minor niggle I can think of is that the flap drag scalar may be just a bit high. It seems like I have to use nearly full throttle on final. I'll need to play more though - this is only after one flight.

UPDATE: Build 1.1 is now out.

Hey guys,

I have released a new update for the Tailwind. This is package wide, so you will need the entire download. If you purchased through SimMarket, you will need to wait a bit as they are uploading it. When the Tailwind page at SimMarket says 'Build 1.1', then you are good to go on requesting the download from them.

Most updates were on the FSX version (if you are flying that one too, you need it).

On the FS9 models, the main fault found was a Tachometer being in the negatives in its panel config coordinates. This may have been causing the frame rate issue for SlamBam. Having gauges off the edge of a gauge sheet can cause some odd issues now and then.

Hey Tom,

The Flaps are easily tuned. I'll check them out. My thoughts on that is that the little craft is designed for speed, with wings that are very thin. I figured that flaps at 45 degrees would be acting like spoilers as well as flaps. I could be wrong though. Everything is tuneable.. If you want wingtanks, those can be added (in the config file of course). :d

My thoughts are, if you had a real plane, and you wanted something adjusted, you simply do that. Adjust linkage here or there. Super easy to just retune a setting.

If I knew how to do it, I would add a handling effect where when you pull the nose up, you slow down moderately. Same with tight turns. I couldnt find the tune for that in the airfile. The actual Tailwinds suffer from those manuvers. It bleeds their speed off fast.

Hi Bill! I've already got the flaps scalar down to 1.0 and it seems to be about right. I think that's one of the things that MS got pretty much right in their code. (I think it's based on the span, but if you had longer or shorter chord flaps, then the lift and drag scalars would come more into play there.)

About the other drag issue, I think that could easily be tuned by the Induced Drag scalar. That one comes into play as AOA increases, which (I think) also happens in tight turns.

Hey Bill,
Bought it this morning via Flight One download.
Great plane. Can't wait to spend more time with it.
I did notice the engine blip sound. Any idea of when there might be a patch?
Thanks again.
Now, how about that Dyke Delta?

Sweet!

Nice! :applause: Are those FSX screenies, Henry? I don't have those paint schemes in my FS2004 version of the Tailwind.

Hey Caz,

I think I have found the issue. Rather, Harleyman did.

It appears that the Tailwind may require SP2 to run. Now, I do not have SP2 on my sim, but... I am running WinXP 32Bit on my iMac. So.... This could be the culprit.

Mason was one of the only ones that had this issue (some textures not showing up). Then, today, two gentlemen in Germany have the same issue. Mason downloaded the SP2 pack and the plane was perfect.

Another mystery...

Well then, I should have no problem, other than the fact I am leaving for another home game in 30 minutes and shall not have time to test her righteously!

And when I return, I shall be under the influence of Neil Spivey's Tiger BBQ is some sweet Summer Ale. :ernae:

Going to get it anyhow for FS9 and FSX, will fly her sober in the AM. :icon_lol:

Quite like this little hot rod version, just what you'd want if you were headed out somewhere on the spur of the moment, two up, with a couple of hot dogs and a cooler box.

I changed the flaps drag from 300 to 100 which seemed better to my mind.
I liked the way the thing dropped onto the runway as I approached stall, just as you'd expect with such a high wing loading.

Have you opened the cooler box once you have it in the aircraft? Bill has hidden some goodies in there for you. Oh, and don't forget to click on the goodies. :d

Absolutely...part of the pre-flight checks!
Now, how do I get the iPhone to play different music??

Bill, I noticed a couple small things in my first flight...the tailwheel doesn't quite hit the ground and when flying in rain, the rain is visible in the 2D panel on the windscreen but is not visible in the VC....I got the FS9 model. However, it really is a neat plane....middle

Look in folder Flight Simulator 9\Sound\LHC, SND20 thru SND27 are the musid files. Convert you favorite songs to wav format and rename them to match those, then replace Bill's stock files.

My only grip about that is that the wave file loops until you shut the phone off.
