Decided that Europe would be nice to visit, so it's time to cross the pond. So, I gassed up and headed east to the first stop in Greenland. Kind of a longish boring flight between Canada and Greenland, but I just turned on "otto" and the CD player and kicked back for the flight.
BGBW was an important stop in the air bridge to England in WWII and was called "Bluie West One" back then. It's at the end of a long fjord and most of the time the weather isn't that good there. Today was no exception, but it wasn't a major problem either. So I figure I got lucky on that.

Took off IFR from BGBW heading east to Keflavik Iceland. Once I climbed out of the weather, I canceled the IFR for the rest of the flight. Wasn't much to see until I was getting close to Iceland. Had a low aurora on descent that was kind of pretty to look at.
Landing at Keflavik wasn't a problem.

Got tired of hanging around Iceland and decide to head to the Faroe Islands. It was such a nice flight in good weather and I had plenty of fuel, that I never even descended there and flew on Bergen Norway. Don't know how long I'll stay here, but there's an old castle with some Viking longships and other artifacts that I remember from my last time here that I might go visit again

Looking at your VC pictures, I am curious what these artifacts are? Did you wreck the Howard or what?

I have attached a proper one. Just right click it, and Save Target As ... to Desktop or wherever, then put in your texture folder(s).

Stefan, I went to Bergen with the Belgian Navy. We would go sightsee out in town, do a little shopping and then return to the ship to drink beer because of how much beer cost there.
Thanks Milton. I didn't know I was missing anything and will add that bitmap to all of my flyable Howards. I think that maybe the reason that this paint is missing it is that I originally did it for a Howard 500 that I converted to AI using the no VC version. I haven't messed with the VC although I have added a few things to the 2d panel. (map icon, winds aloft info gauge popup and icon and the Radio/CD player)

I just might have to break my Howard out again sometime soon!
Now that Merc Air's Flight 19 is on break for a few days, I've got more time to fly the Howard. So, I saddled up and headed out of Norway for Copenhagen Denmark. Another kicked back flight although the air traffic is picking up a bit now that I'm getting into more populated areas. I'm including a pic of the 2D panel to show the few mods that I've done to it. The Howard comes very well equipped, so there really wasn't much to do with it.
I've not really got a set plan for this flight, although I pretty much know where I want to go next and have a general idea for the next few stops past that. Keeps things more interesting that way rather than having a detailed plan. The only thing for sure is that while the Howard has quite a bit of range, I prefer to keep the flights to under an hour or so. And this is one heck of an aircraft for covering distances pretty quick.

BTW, attaching a darker version of the main gear tire textures. I like it better than the original and would likely be better for your paint scheme.

The secret to that is to pause and file an IFR plan from the nearest airport, then be sure to click No when asked if you want to be moved to the starting point.
I just prefer not to go IFR if I can help it. They usually have me on headings all over the countryside just to go 20nm straight ahead.
Got the heck out of Berlin and headed west to Lelystad in Holland. On the way there, I got too darn close to an Aeroflot AN 12 that was headed in the opposite direction. Other than that it was a pretty uneventfull flight.

LOL that's as real as it gets for you Willy. Occasionally I get that IRL as well. In the sim you can avoid some of the zig-zag flying by asking for a specific approach such as the ILS 07 via TRM transition....if you have the plates for the airport in question.
If you do a popup IFR close in to an airport you usually end up with instructions such as "cleared for ILS 07 via TRM transition, contact tower on 118.20 when inbound"
In that case you can still fly anyway you want and then contact tower once you are on a straight in final.
Of course I would not recommend that procedure in the real airplane :ernae:

Left Holland for Dublin Ireland with a stop in Glasgow Scotland on the way. The weather started out really nice, but once I got over Scotland, Scottish weather took over. It was so foggy in Glasgow, that I just knew they were going to tell me IFR, but they let me land anyway. Although I must admit, it wasn't one of my better performances. I bounced the Howard pretty good on touchdown. Actually, more of a slam onto the runway than a bounce. But nothing broke, so it worked out. Then it was just taxi to the gate to pick up a couple of passengers. Only thing was that the tower demanded that I take off IFR. Sheesh... I just landed without it. Oh, well.......
ETA: The reason for the hard landing. I was too darn high in the fog and figured I'd have a hard time finding the end of the runway again. So at 300ft, I decided to try and make a dive for it. The idea was that if it didn't look good, I could still pull out and go around. I was already at 120kts with full flaps and gear down. Normally, I can pull this stunt off. I got down to 100ft and started pulling up. Got the descent slowed at 40ft and my 8 year old comp decided that it was time to make a slide show out of FS (it does this on occasion, just usually not at critical moments). So here I am, knowing that I'm still descending, but no clue as to how fast while I'm looking at a frame every couple of seconds. At that point I'm just along for the ride and was very surprised that I didn't get a crash out of it. Especially since I was right wing down a bit when contact was made with the ground. Oh well, you take your chances...
And in the second pic, I think the name of that church is "Our Lady of the Sacred Smoking Crater".

Once I got up in the air good, I cancelled the IFR and flew on VFR to Ireland. Much better landing in Dublin. Taxied to the gate and let the passengers out. Think I'll stay parked here until tomorrow and go check out the Pilot's Lounge and see if I can round up some coffee with Irish creme. After Glasgow, I need something with a little bite to it.
