There's Nothing Like Fresh Mesh ...

Fear not Wellis - really fine paints coming from your hangar.

You won't need anything fancy - you'll be fine with light, flat areas.
You'll wan't to 'white-out' any areas not requiring sheen.

Milton's spot-on in his reference to wing and hull undersufaces needing less alpha intensity.

I'll send you my e-mail address - If you like, I can send you alphas I'm presently working on for the TP Mallard.

Keep up the good work, Wellis. :)

Thanks very much. I replied to your pm just now also with my private email. I would appreciate the alphas you mention as examples as I do do have several TP versions in the works for the future (when I become frustrated with the pixel-by-pixel on one, I start another and go back and forth until happy.:biggrin-new:

wellis, love this new scheme; well done Sir :jump:

Regarding the alpha enhancements, agree with Nigel's comments.

Leave fabric covered areas white (near 255) to negate reflectivity.
Lower areas (and areas facing more downward like under wings/fuse) take to reflectivity easier so usually 230,230,230 to 235's range works well but upper areas (and surfaces facing up), if light colors, may require 220's.
Dark primary channel colors usually require less alpha channel as they take to reflectivity easier.

Thanks for this one; great stuff. :applause:

Thanks Milton. Between yourself and Nigel I'll get this figured out - learning new things is a major part the fun of all this for me..:adoration:

Just uploaded to the library..a few pictures to better show the shiny new paint job. Thanks to Nigel and Milton for help with the alpha. I'll be doing alpha updates for the liveries completed so far. :)

Now THAT is really a SWEET repaint skin for the Mallard, Wellis. I downloaded and installed it in a flash. Nicely done! :encouragement:

Thank your sir. As noted above, I am going to go back and spruce up the alphas on the wings and fuselage templates for the others I have done for this model, in case you have any of the others. I will post them in groups in 2048.

Replacement 2048 fuselage and wings template textures for the classic and modern models have been uploaded to the library this a.m. They include alpha enhancements for all those that I have done for the two models, giving them all shiny new, freshly polished paint jobs including: C-GENT, VH-SPL, N7352, N2948-Texaco, N3010, N1208, N98BS, N168WS, and N2954. Hope you like 'em.

Thanks to Nigel and Milton for the guidance on these enhancements....

Hear, Hear....

Oh Man!

Those sumptuous paints have sprung to life, Wellis - exquisite work! :)

Precisely the type of artwork I like best.... It has that "hand made" look... really nice artistry!!!
Somehow brings it to life... you are absolutely right!!!!

Would love to see some military liveries!
Keep up the good work Sir!!

Thank you, gaucho_59

I have actually started on a "military" version. Unfortunately, the Mallard does not appear to have seen much use in the services as did the Albatross, Goose, and Widgeon. In fact, I have not been able to find any western military versions, though I may do a couple of "fictional" versions based on the Albatross. In the meantime I am working on the only military version I can find photos of: J-48 and/or J-47. Both of these served in the Royal Egyptian Air Force (as it was then known) as VIP transports in the early 1950's during the King Farouk era. The Thai Navy had one briefly in the late 90's, J-54, but was subsequently put back on the civilian market under several different N-numbers.

I'm unable to use 2048pix texture with FS9. I got planes "nude". Does I missed something somewhere ? I can resize to 1024, okay, I know, but ?!

Sorry that you are having trouble with them. Is this just one particular livery, or others? Perhaps something was missed on the install. I just went through them all in my installation of FS9 and all worked fine (I have all settings maxed on graphics) and can see no reason for the problem. :dizzy:

If anyone else is having a similar problem let me know. I am not sure what I can do though, since they seem to working fine on my end. Nigel?, Milton?, Ed, anyone, any thoughts?

All these new Mallard textures. I have bring back the previous textures I didn't deleted and everthing goes okay now, but at 1024 pix large !

I may don't have allowed my FS9 to use 2048 pix (I don't know it was possible until today !) , anyone can tell me how to do ?

Sorry to hear that Fredem. I am not really the one to answer your question about setting FS9 to read the 2048 textures, if that is indeed the problem. I thought perhaps in the FS9.cfg file you could change the value in the line: TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024 to 2048. But in looking at mine I see that it is default set at 1024 and yet my install of FS9 displays the 2048 textures just fine. So that doesn't appear to be it. Hopefully someone with the requisite knowledge will chime in...

I just installed the new textures and they all display as they should. Some of the textures I didn't have in the Mallard's folder so I had to create a new texture folder using existing ones, just copy everything over to the new folder and DON'T overwrite the new 2048 textures. Sorry, I can't think of any other method to get those to show up, but they should. I have several other models that use 2048 texture sheets installed in my copy of FS9 and they all work as they should.

Hi all,

sorry for any inconvenience texture sizing may be causing. I will put up 1024 textures for all the liveries (in one package) here a bit later.

Wellis,

I have never been able to get 2048 textures to work for me in FS9 so I am unaware what the secret is.

I should also mention, for any repaints anyone puts out, that the Modern and Classis texture names are different for the fuselage, fuselage inner, and cabinets and cabinseat bmps.

The texture sets are different of course because the cabins, seats, interiors, and some exterior parts are different. Therefore one livery texture set cannot be for both Modern and classic unless they are in separate folders and carry proper names.

Modern version: If you see fusemod.bmp and fuseinnermod.bmp, the set is for the modern version and should have a cabinseatmod.bmp

Classic version: If you see fuselage.bmp and fuseinner.bmp accompanied by cabinets.bmp and cabinseats.bmp, then you have a Classic version set of textures.

The two sets can co-exist if all these textures are in the same folder for a livery.
