I am interested in trying to fix the issue (see attached) with the dude and gear hovering in air.
LOL !!!! I sure know about that little problem. You will find the answer here: http://www.glowingheat.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=43

Apparently, I cannot add additional items to accompany the Oriskany i.e. otherwise strange things happen like cargo nets and boxes are hovering in the air yes?
I wanted to add the Patuxent to the Oriskany is there another way to do so without the strange results?
[formation.8]
title=Oriskany
unit.0=USS_Oriskany, 0, 0
unit.1=USNS_PATUXENT_UNREP, 102, -50
unit.2=USS_SSN_775_Virginia_class, -0, 500
unit.3=SH-60_guard, 350, -220
unit.4=SH-60_guard, 150, -80
To have the Patuxent sitting at the right height for Oriskany, you would need to adjust the static_cg_height in the cfg file of the Patuxent. But, in doing that she would not sit at the right height for Nimitz. Making a copy of Patuxent folder then renaming it (plus the model file + cfg and the sim cfg) would solve that problem.

That works Joe - I adjusted the cg_height to -10, and also created a copy of the Patuxent, and renamed everything LARAMIE, which is a sister ship to the Patuxent.
Here are my ai carrier config settings to get everything reasonably lined up
[formation.17]
title=Oriskany UNREP
unit.0=USS_Oriskany, 0, 0
unit.11=USNS_LARAMIE_UNREP, 95, 150

Bringing the Whale home on Oriskany - not much room for error, and lots of bolters! I have found that fuel around 30% or less works for me, with an approach speed at half flaps around115 kts and speedbrakes out.

shouldn't this be unit .2 vice unit .11? I think that was giving me problems. </shouldn't>
I didn't think of her sister ship so i just renamed it VEH_PATUXENT, but glad it worked. There is still some things that don't line up with Oriskany (fuel and cargo lines and some of the cargo that is on the hanger deck). I'm not sure if you can hex edit the mdl file to adjust those items (I wouldn't know where to look). I also adjusted the acceleration_constants and
deceleration_constants lines in the cfg file to match that of Oriskany, as she was slower and would fall behind.
acceleration_constants = 0.5, 0.4
deceleration_constants = 2.0, 0.5

Success! Those changes and guidance now have me trapping the Whale on the 'O' - many thanks!
A-3 was a big honkin' jet to bring aboard any carrier, especially the 27-Charlies. Pretty easy to see why all the flight deck personnel stood way clear of the landing area when "Whale on final!" was announced over the 5MC flight deck PA system.![]()
Any luck with the Midway?
Even on Coral Sea V-3 Div was never real happy when a Whale had to go into the hangar bay. A real challenge to move around, guys crossing the hangar deck used to stop and watch while they were parking one. Don't remember one ever getting crunched, our ABH's were pretty good.I was on two different 27'C's back in the day USS Hancock and Bon Homme Richard (Bonnie Dick) when the Whales launched and landed. The plane had hinges just about every where and would almost fold in half to get into hanger bay. The Vertical tail even folded.

....There were a few black A-3's that were of the clock and dagger persuasion. They took off and landed only at night, like bats would do. Think they did recon over Nam.
CLock and Dagger eh...?
well that's one way to keep time from marching on I s'pose....
