    Post 16 Update

Post 17 Warning old domain name stealing credentials

  • IMPORTANT INFORMATION - ALL MEMBERS PLEASE READ

Due to an increase in the number of new members who are trying to systematically download our entire Resource Library (one new member yesterday tried to download 3,000+ files AT ONCE!) we are being forced to implement some changes regarding who can download what, how many files at a time and at what speed. As the forums and Resource Library share the same bandwidth when the Library gets overloaded with demand like that the forums fall over, as we have all seen recently. It's sad that greed has forced our hand in this way but we must do something for the benefit of all our legitimate members (many of whom paid money for the upkeep of the site) and to prevent the files stored here being used for nefarious purposes. Many of our uploads have specific conditions tied to them that forbid uploading to any other site or deny uploading to any site that has a 'paywall' (i.e. a pay to download policy). Due to the number of mass download attempts recently we can only assume that somebody, somewhere, is attempting to stock up a new file library with our files and we owe it to our up-loaders to protect their files and intellectual property especially as many (like my own LDR Development projects) are made available at SOH only and are specified as such in the 'read me' files.

The forums and Resource Library will be taken offline as of 13:00 EDT with the forums coming back online shortly after without the resources library while we work on setting up permissions on the new Library module.

We hope our members understand why we need to do this and will bear with us while we implement the changes.

    Thanks in anticipation, SOH ADMINISTRATION

Downloads are now active. You may proceed with downloading as desired

The download limits are a work in progress. Some settings are likely to need tweaking in the coming days.

Version 4.1

I tried to analyze how the rain effect is done. The textures are in P3Ds main \texture\ folder. But how is the effect triggered? I thought it might be a gauge, but not so (except the gauge is hidden behind a ambigous name).

It's not attached as an effect to the airplane either.

The background for my effort is to try to make it for other AC work. I also didn't find any reference in the SDK to it.

Mysteries!

Cheers,
Mark

It is in the latest SDK, under material settings I think. It's a LUA script attached to the material. The script itself is in the P3d / scripts folder.

Edit: its under "new aircraft procedures".

That's it, Dave! Thanks!

The file is PrecipWindshieldEffect.lua

I'll inspect it for further work. Interesting way of injecting it into the sim. Who knows what's possible here. Seems to be a very powerful interface.

Cheers,
Mark

Essentially Gary it is a 21st century reworking of the ancient chain-animated texture system from FS2004 (FS9). The only major 'advancement' though is the introduction of lua scripting, which replaces the fixed logic embedded in the core engine.

This system allows for customization of the logic as well as the use of custom bitmaps.

I'd suggested and hoped that L-M would have developed a script driven but shader based system, similar to that which is used in ETS and ATS, where the wipers work realistically to help clear the water from the windows, but not perfectly! :adoration:

Does anyone know if the beta ORBX Objectflow works in 4.1. It was the one being updated first in v3 with every P3D update.

Dumb question here, but which files contain the updates? Is it just the client MSI file? Or do I need to download others also?

Sorry, just feeling kind of daft right now.

All you need is the Client. If you fly the F-16, you might want to download the Content and its two cab files.

Hello, there is a new objectflow 2 module available for download at the Orbx open beta forum.
It was ready in time for the release of P3D v4.1 but for now needs to be manually copied and
pasted.

Wonderful! Thanks!

John, Content includes the new rain effect also. I investigate how to install Content and have all addons/sceneries as it was before 4.1:

Hi,
I saw this post of Elaine
viewtopic.php?f=6322&t=126976#p168163
The Content component will remove and update the following folders below

Install_ Content.msi - Scripts, redist, SimObjects, Weather, Scenarios, Ecosystem, Fonts, Autogen, Effects, gauges, Sound, Texture

This process will only remove and update Default Prepar3D files, It will not remove or overwrite Extra files (non default) that you have in place

I didnt install yet 4.1 (update only) but is it possible to install Client + Content only (for the rain effect) without reinstalling whole Sim? So to have my "old" SimObject's addons/ORBX and scenery ? Any advices or tips for this?

Maybe do the backup of: Scripts, Redist, SimObjects, Weather, Scenarios, Ecosystem, Fonts, Autogen, Effects, Gauges, Sound, Texture folders and after this copy and past without overwrite option? What do You think?

Im hearing and seeing reports that external shadows on some models are missing or messed up with v4.1

i havent noticed it myself mainly due to i wasnt looking

I know of a few models from posts and that may explain why someone noticed the jf otter doesnt have shadows

I tried getting ORBX to work with 4.1, FTX Central does not recognize it as V4, at least I could not get it to, and I was following the instructions linked to on avsim. I had renamed my original 4.0 folder and installed 4.1, moving the orbx folder into it, no luck. For now I have swapped back to 4.0 until ORBX does an update.

Sorry, you do not have permission... Tried to sign in. I guess I used the wrong password? After ONE attempt, ORBX locked me out for 15 mins.

THANK YOU ORBX!

I too rolled back to V4. My reasoning had to do more with Flight1's 650/750, however. When all of that is worked out, I will reload v.1.

FYI: When I rolled back the Client, I left the Content on V4.1. So, far everything seems to work fine.

John, Flight1 has released version 2.04 of GTN Complete. Go to the Flight1 GTN page and download the installer... it says v2.03 on the page, and nothing about the installer reveals that it is v2.04, but it is. Do not try to update using the F1Updater... just install v2.04 over v2.03.

HTH,

Greg

Hello Joe, what do you mean by "until Orbx does an update" please?

Untill ftxcenteral is updated to recognize my 4.1 install as being p3d v4. I did not try the dll update mentioned just after my post, but will try either tonight or tomorrow morning
