  • IMPORTANT INFORMATION - ALL MEMBERS PLEASE READ

    Due to an increase in the number of new members who are trying to systematically download our entire Resource Library (one new member yesterday tried to download 3,000+ files AT ONCE!) we are being forced to implement some changes regarding who can download what, how many files at a time and at what speed. As the forums and Resource Library share the same bandwidth when the Library gets overloaded with demand like that the forums fall over, as we have all seen recently. It's sad that greed has forced our hand in this way but we must do something for the benefit of all our legitimate members (many of whom paid money for the upkeep of the site) and to prevent the files stored here being used for nefarious purposes. Many of our uploads have specific conditions tied to them that forbid uploading to any other site or deny uploading to any site that has a 'paywall' (i.e. a pay to download policy). Due to the number of mass download attempts recently we can only assume that somebody, somewhere, is attempting to stock up a new file library with our files and we owe it to our up-loaders to protect their files and intellectual property especially as many (like my own LDR Development projects) are made available at SOH only and are specified as such in the 'read me' files.

    The forums and Resource Library will be taken offline as of 13:00 EDT with the forums coming back online shortly after without the resources library while we work on setting up permissions on the new Library module.

    We hope our members understand why we need to do this and will bear with us while we implement the changes.

City Textures rework

That is fantastic work! It takes so much dedication to recreate a city of this size. And it looks so much better than stock.

The only thing that strikes me, is that London seems a lot greener than I seem to remember from WW2 aerial photography. But that's just a personal opinion (and I have never been there). Don't let that keep you from doing the good work ;)

I would like to edit the city landclass mos and iso files but the presently available tools don't work properly. I did try to create new fillmaps for trees and buildings but the rgn2iso.exe does not work properly. I know there was an updated version that worked, but over time it seems that we've lost it.
I have to work with what is available.

I'm currently doing object placements for the Leyte gulf project. When I get back to this project I will continue with something I started a few weeks ago, and that is creating smaller versions of my city mos/facility models which will consist of terraced housing without trees. These will be placed in central London. Hopefully framerates wont suffer.



The reason why I started this whole project in the first place is because I deleted my CFS3backup folder on my external hdd to make much needed space. I stupidly deleted my OFF phase2 freeware install which contained the assets folder that I would use in CFS3 when I had it installed. I suppose it was a blessing in disguise or I would not be having so much fun with this project.:)

I still wish that OBD software would make their sims available on steam, I would definitely purchase them as I am sure would other sim fans that don't use credit cards.


This is my current creation pit with the above-mentioned mos/facility model. The large terrace building is based on the il2 1946 english block model created by Boomer. My version is simpler and I added an extra housing unit to what was a 4 unit block.

I have always liked this song with it's multi layered vocals. I knew of 10cc but did not know until recently that they wrote and performed this masterpiece. I knew that they did 'Dreadlock holiday' and thought it was quite strange that an American group would make mention of cricket in a song, that is until I discovered the were British.
This great vid documents the song's creation process and features the full version at the end of the vid.


These guys have a great sense of humour. The lead singer apparently wrote the song as a response when his wife complained that he did'nt tell her often enough that he loved her. A great song inspired by a nagging wife, whoda thunk. :LOL:

Those look great. I know OBD either found a way to fix the tools or make new ones to create their scenery for WOFF. At one point it sounded like they planned to release them, but as of yet that hasn't happened. But if they did it, then somebody else could, but I have no idea where to start for something like that.
 
I read on one of the threads that somebody created a fixed version, can't remember the name. Maybe that's what OBD are using. I must look for the thread again.

Anyway, I'm almost done with creating Ormoc port for the Leyte gulf install and then I'm back to this project.

I haven't really done much work on this project over the last while because I've been busy on Ormoc for Bob's great Battle of Leyte Gulf project. Bob suggested that I should post some pics, so here we go.

Thanks go to Bob for the opportunity to have fun with this. I'm looking forward to the release of his theater.

The pics just don't do justice on how good this facility looks in the game. Glen has done a brilliant job.

When I was a teenager the Goon show used to be aired at 13:00 on a Sunday. At school the next day my mates and I would be doing Eccles and Bluebottle impersonations, "Ee's fallen in the waater", being my favourite.:)

I decided to replace some of the field textures, keeping the the field shapes so that the tree fillmaps still work. I added a bit of detail and experimented with different brightness and hues. I eventually settled on this look for now. The first pic features the original eto texture but with my landclass adjustments for comparison.

I created an urban block to be used in central London and decided to place it at Dover as well. This is still a wip.

I created black and lighter roof textures for the terraced buildings, still not sure which I prefer.

Beautifiul work there R, looks fantastic all together. Tree dispersion looks realistic, patchwork of fields and colours excellent. Dover looks very god. IMO what I would say is that the slate roof colour really needs to be in between the the dark and the light. Slate roofs are mid grey (I know they vary) and have a very slight sheen.
The dark version looks almost like kiln tiles and the light grey like asbestos tiles.

Thanks for the critique Shessi. The original colour was mid grey. I may add some reflection to the roof texture and see how that pans out.

I think the fields are a step in the right direction. I don't know if any sim has truly managed to capture the right color palette for SE England. Seems to be difficult to get right.
 
Great stuff. Are you going to make large facilities with multiple blocks of these terraced houses? They would be just the job to include in city_target facilities for bombing purposes, both in England , and in Germany. The current facilities need upgrading from below. with separation of housing from industrial, and not so rectangular. What you have done above is much better IMHO. PS, I like the dark. coal fire smoke roofs!

My intention is to create a series of small urban blocks like the one at Dover to place in town centers at most cities rather than the huge the large city mos/facility cities that I created initially. These will be placed in groups, replacing the autogen buildings as much as possible. I will also create smaller sections to be placed on the sides so that they don't appear so blocky. The more I work with these the more confident I become and the quicker I can create them.

Below is my initial placement in London. I think it will require at least two more of these to be built for variation. They can then be rotated and placed as required.

I have to rely on googlearth images, aerial video and google images which is not ideal because lighting and atmosphere changes dependent on the time of day and cloud cover. Then there are different filters that are used on scenic pics and video. It can get very confusing. I spent a lot of time trying out different hues, saturation, brightness and contrast settings. I have about six different versions of these textures, darker, lighter, more yellow etc.
