For a "nose dragger", I do like the A-20. Though, if I'd have been Douglas, I'd have went with larger engines. A pair of R-2800s would have sufficed.

The Douglas A-20 originally had Twin Wasps and did not upgrade to the R-2600 until the A-20 main production or the DB-7A / Havoc II variant. Most of the flight analysis on the R-2600 model indicate that the A-20 had an excess of power...particularly the British and the Russians, which is why, in their words, the aircraft was fast and agile.

For 1941, a light bomber with a top speed of between 335-350mph was outstanding, better than all three main German types, as well as a Beaufighter, Blenheim, Maryland, Baltimore, Mitchell, and Marauder. Even later in the war, it was darn good, almost as fast as an Invader, which did have R-2800s.

It could maintain altitude in 65 degree turns, and the British also love it, saying "it was without vices, was easy to takeoff and land, and was extremely pleasant to fly and maneuver." It was by all definitions a "pilot's airplane," and it was loved for its ability to be tossed around like a fighter.

The 737-400 had a similar tail bumper fairing, though part of the crush can did extend slightly beyond the fairing to tell if an impact had been made and how bad.

from the pilots point of view, nice to be able to see well from both sides of the cockpit.

Working mostly on the A-20G now. GLH has been doing a lot of FM data gathering and organization so we are also working on the flight model.

Will try to get a decent package to the paint shop Thursday if I find nothing else to clean up.
 
Now the LDR Mallard is rolling out of the paint shop, I've time to tackle this beauty! Hopefully going to do her justice!

Meanwhile, back in the design hangar, I have started the slow grind of VC interior construction. Building all from scratch of course and you can see I am just getting started with basic infrastructure.

With blizzard conditions about passed (EDIT: I thought-another 12 inches expected) now but snow accumulating throughout the day, I am diligently working to flesh out the A-20 VC.
I better get that heater installed. :mixed-smiley-010:

Just getting some of the basics in place here ... and now back to it. :running:

Sorry about the snow Milton, the weather is crazy this year. There you are in a southern US desert enduring blizzards while I sit in the Great White North with daffodils and tulips pushing up through the ground in late December!!!!!!! The world's gone mad I tell ya!

We need to spare a thought for all the Brits up to their armpits in flood water too.

BTW that's a nice looking control column/yoke too. I've got to tackle that shortly on our current project.
