F7F Tigercat SOH Project

awwwwwwwww niiiiiiiiiice......i dont think it really maters to me (see abut the others) of which style tank is used...i would like the one the sis-Q tankers used since they are the ones that were used mostly out of GVATB,BUT..ive never paid attention to the backside so i dont know...lol...makes no diff to me as im not a "rivit counter".
i want to say..these F7F tankers could not land with any retardant in them at all or the gear would fail ( could) so they jettisoned it before landing,there is a rock faced cliff near the nevada county airport that is now covered in plants just from the retardant.

they would also land main gear first,and do a long roll out on the mains ,,nose wheel high off the runway..then set it down last minute and then turn into the tanker base.my dad ,to this day says they were showing off for us..but Mr Mason told me they allways did it...lol...

I don't know,I have a thing for military aircraft decked out in civilian colors.

There is a great retardant effect available on my website wildfirepilot.com. It was developed by a fellow named James Edmond, I'm pretty sure he is a member here at Hovercontrol. If your interested in using it I could get ahold of James for you?

The retardant effect that James developed stays visible on the ground for about 45-60 minutes after the drop. I have tried a few other effects but this is the only one I have found that does this. It makes boxing in a fire and building line a lot of fun, especially when you have more than one tanker in multiplayer.

More people developing aircraft, effects etc for fire fighting is always a good thing.:jump: If you need any reference photo's, video etc Thunder100, feel free to ask.

read this about the F7F tankers in a book by phillip wallick,motorbooks international,pub,,"Fire Bombers"

"Undoubtedly the only problem with these great aircraft(F7F)was that they had to be flown all the time.When Phil Wallick interviewed F7F pilots,one said 'that airplane was always ready to eat my lunch',and the other said 'If you weren't paying attention it would do something that would get your attention real sudden!'"

and from my childhood memories,i recall the pilots telling us that they had a tendancy to roll,i think( not sure,but i think the props/engines spun the same way? not oppisit.).and that would caus it to roll in the air..if memorey also serves that is commented on in the squadron signal books from osprey,,,might be a neat thing to program into the flight model if possible..????
 
True, the F7F did not have contra rotating props, so I would expect it to exhibit a little left wing heaviness, but proper trim should stabilize the wing. The bulging fire retardant tank may have altered the flight characteristics sufficiently to induce a tendency to roll.
 
The thing about a liquid load is that it is NEVER static. It is always shifting, and it resists direction change much more than dry loads. During ANY type of acceleration, which includes any change in direction or movement, it resists with more than it's own weight. Since the F7F was designed as a fighter, it is not inheritantly stable, so the constant load shifts would require constant attention. And in the rough air of a fire....

May I ask the knowledgeable firefighters

What is water content of tank?
What is drop rate -->Liter/min or Liter/sec?Or Gallons or whatever
I asume its not stable as the doors dont open suddenly
How is the water dump operated?Open the doors by a lever?
