erm, excuse me, but this member of the test team has been helping with the fde, as I can't paint for toffee to the same standard as the model deserves.

It is indeed the Alphasim version
It certainly is a good model, even though quite old now I guess; instrumentation is a bit sparse which is why I put in an easier to use radio, autopilot and HSI, also added pitot and de-icer switches and a trim wheel. Next week I am fitting an armchair and a pipe rack as further aids to comfort.

Catalina "fire eater"
Hallo Huub,
error, it is the good old Catalina fron Alphasim, I believe her to be the best Catalina for FS2004,
much better than Mike Stone's one
I'm working on a bit more real panel for her.

The French ace Pierre Le Gloan was already a experienced and respected pilot before the war started. He made his first kills during the "Phoney war". When the Germans invaded he was active at the Nothern front where he scored several victories. His unit was withdrawn of the front and moved to the South where his unit was to be re-equipped with the best French fighter at the moment the Dewoitie D520.
At that moment the Italians invaded France as well, which took France in a two front war. Le Gloan's unit was in the ideal position to counter this attack. Before the armistice Le Gloan scored seven victories, from which five on June 15.
After the armistice his unit moved to Syria and Lebanon, which were French colonies. Suddenly his unit were facing RAF fighter. During the summer of 1941 he shot down six RAF fighters. After the Allied invasion of North Afrika, many French refused to fight the Allied. Le Gloan was one of them and his unit was converted to the P-39 Airacobra.
On September 11th 1943 whilst flying a two aircraft patrol off the coast of Algeria, Capitaine Le Gloan ‘s P-39 developed engine problems and he turned for home, his engine trailing smoke. His engine failed and he attempted to carry out a forced landing in the vicinity of Ouillis. With fuel still present in the belly tank of his fighter, the aircraft exploded on contact with the ground and Le Gloan was killed instantly.
Remembered as a brilliant pilot and natural aviator, Pierre Le Gloan’s successes for both sides of the largest air conflict of all time make him unique in the annals of aviation history.
I have painted his Dewoitine as it must have looked on 15 June 1940. I did not add too much weathering as the aicraft had just been delivered to the unit. It has airframe number 277 which means it was produced after 10 May.
In the Aviation and Space museum at Le Bourget there a D520 on display in these colours.

Must admit I had to get Ginger to knock up an extra fuel tank with some of those natty cans the Jerries always seem to have with them for the Tamanrasset to Timbuktu then onto Khartoum legs.
not a lot to see... more sand than Blackpool!
Anyways I'm now made it to Pafos Aerodrome on Aphrodite's Isle; and once Ginger and Algy catch up (they're somewhere on a ship crossing the Med' ) ; Ginger has said he's got some natty floats to fit to the kite, so I can then go island hopping round the Peleponese.
