Back to work in the Turbo P-39.

The side mounted intercooler and long cannon as this is fitted with the 20 mm like P-400, P-39D-1 and D-2.

The GE B-2 turbo charger (Same as used on the P-38) and radiators and oil coolers that are now moved into the forward part of the wings as the normal P-39 has the radiator and oil coolers under the engine in-between the main gear wheel wells than exhaust out where the turbo charger is at now.

Got my old controllers out of storage.... thankfully all still works. Also have a Saitek force feedback stick, but unfortunately that one won't work with Windows 10/11

While the Turbo P-39 is on paper compatible with any OH P-39 texture they have drawn on exhaust stacks and radiator and oil coolers exhaust that would be out of place so I'm working on a few textures. Thinking this one. A P-400 style camo and early OD with the with the "meatball" in the center of the star.

Got the "pre war" and P-400 textures ironed out.

Keep going Allen, I'm enjoying these re-engined "maybes" come to life.

Wonder what difference (other than better at altitude) those whopping inlets would make to straight line acceleration & manoeuvrability...

Naff propdisk BTW :costumed-smiley-034, gonna have to change that before I give her a spin.

Since I have a brain that is smooth as a glass marble I forgot that once you scale down anything that has more than 1 axis that scale isn't linear. With that thought coming to me while sitting on the toilet like most good thoughts do I now have to come up with a coolant radiator set up that will work.

I guess the radiator will have to go back to the same area that it was but have to be exposed to the air.

Very nice rework of the Ginga, John! I also like the wreck in the background of the first picture!
Well spotted!

Reading the troubles they had getting the Ginga to be reliable, I thought the initial deployment of 521ku to Guam would probably mean the aircraft would spend as much time on the ground as in the air.

So I thought I'd see if I could create some scenery objects from it, one parked aircraft & a couple of wrecks :icon36:

Thought I'd better finish revising Akemi's Zeke 52 model.

Deshined model, recoloured & shiny glass, & the usual slew of repaint options...

Those 52s are looking really nice :applause: I took a little break from my next Ki-44 mission but going back to finish it and after that I have several late war missions ideas on the IJN side. I was wondering UncleTgt, do you have a perticular source for your skins (especially japanese)? Maybe just some skins from plastic models you saw on google or retail sites? I sometimes struggle finding some information or details about some units, like your notes in your 205ku skins pack for the OH A6M5 and Allen's A6M5c.

Hi Ludo,

Yes, modelling sites & profiles are valid sources, but wherever possible I try to find a photo to back up any profiles I see. So often these photos are black & white, & I often disagree with some elements of interpretation of colouring put into a profile.

Doing further research & trawling through books or more academic reasearch sites & forums can often yield a much better understanding of the circumstances any photo was taken - so often the captions are wrong or mistakenly identified - more frequent than you think!

It's a while since I did the 205ku skins. IIRC I was looking for info as part of the BPF Iceberg research & transcribed the unit history from a reference book in a Library. The aircraft markings were largely derived from the info gleaned from j-aircraft.com about "standard IJNAF markings for the early '45 period...

Here's a quick list of websites I use for research, with some comments of how I use them...

j-aircraft.com - don't forget the forum, sometimes good photos & discussion points are hidden away in the archives

pacificwrecks.com - often used for airbase/scenery details, but also a great index of aircraft types, clicking on these gets you a listing of individual aircraft & sometimes these describe appearance, or have photos to support

combinedfleet.com - mainly for shipping, but the TROMs can provide details for anti-shipping strike set-ups

propnturret.com/tully/ - the forums associated with combinedfleet.com. Again, naval bias, but a great source of details of ship operations.

http://www.aviationofjapan.com/ - modelling bias, but a great source of knowledge for JAP aircraft appearance etc. Some interesting video links, & some unit/operation details hidden in the various narratives.

https://arawasi-wildeagles.blogspot.com/ - like aviatonofjapan.com, but more historical research/discussion

https://ww2aircraft.net/forum/ - often a google search for a particular unit/pilot/aircraft type will lead you to a discussion on this forum. Surprising level of detail can be found if you take the time to scroll through the various discussions.

https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php - modelling site, with a UK focus, but some useful detail/discussion/research info hidden in the various discussions here. I find the site search is poor, so I often google search & put "britmodeller" at the end of my search terms, it generates a much better set of results.

https://forum.rafcommands.com/ - like ww2aircraft.net, but focussed on UK airforce. Sometimes has nuggets of historical detail in amongst the discussion threads. Like j-aircraft.com forum & propnturret/tully/, just searching through the discussion boards & archives can reveal a surprising amount of details on a variety of subjects.

https://www.royalnavyresearcharchive.org.uk/ - a collection of RN websites, detailing airbases, carriers, & naval squadron histories. Sometimes good photos & serial numbers/pilot names in amongst the histories. The airbases website is worldwide, & often includes layout drawings.

I hope these notes help you out some.

Thanks for your reply and all those sites Uncle, I already know some of them but I must admit I didn't pay enough attention about those forums, I guess I will have to do some digging in all of them and/or be more precise/specific in my searches on google. Here in France we have a publisher of military history that have quite good magazines about aircrafts, ships etc so I often use them as a starting point but I wish they would/could give more details on some specific things. I guess they can't be as exhaustive as in dedicated books, I have one about the Zero from them but it's in two volumes, the second one is not out yet and will be specifically about the operational career of the plane so I hope it will come out soon (if they didn't forget about it). But I digress. Thank you again Uncle :loyal:
