The Aussies used the ASV Ansons for coastal patrol, recon & convoy escort work.

Each of the Flight Schools created Reserve Sqns for this task, they were active from '43 onwards.

A few airframes (26) were converted to use ASV mkII from late '43. By mid-44 any danger had passed, & only a single sqn was left with any of these Ansons in use.

You're right, they probably used the ASV for homing as much as a search tool though, the receivers weren't much use beyond a 30 deg arc.

TBH John,
I would export from Gmax and then just do it using Mk_mdl.

What I usually do is assign a material colour to certain things eg fuselage, weapons, tyres etc. I export (I use FSDS, and can put the settings there, but like Gmax it seems to mess some/change the settings on export), I then use Mk_mdlc for an overall effect (which affects all parts), then use MDLMat for specfic bits (if needed), and I can ID what bits they are by the assigned material colour of the parts.

Cheers

Working thru the different Anson mdls & buffing them up. Also went back & put some sheen onto the SOC Seagull & Martin 139 WH-3 models...

Cheers Mark,

I've attached an updated version of the values I'm using in MDLmat & GMax for glass & shiny materials, as I know you're interested :geek:

Here's an update to this issue. I've pretty much abandoned using MDLmat on models made using G-Max. It seems any tweaking takes pretty much all the shine off every material, no matter what values I use in MDLmat.

So I've experimented in G-Max & come up with some settings that seem to work OK... see updated txt file attached.

Ha ha ha...love 'em! Looks so much more realistic (IMO). Also in the CFS2 world nothing else has sheen/shine, so it makes the ac stand out better I think.

That ally/doped Moth looks very nice.

Cheers

It's Frank Eltons Hornet Moth.

I remapped for camo, swapped in Daves Anson pilots, new panel, new airfile etc.

Was used early in 1940 for "Scarecrow" anti-sub patrols flying from Hooton.

To light to carry any warload, they really were meant to "scare" enemy subs simply by their presence, playing on the sub commander's fear they would report his position & call up reinforcements. :smiley_simmons:

Whilst I had the model in GMax I read about the RAF using 4 Moths for floatplane trials in 1937. Found a single photo & had a serial number, so I thought I'd try my hand at adding some floats... :teapot:

Very nice texs there John, love the subtle panel tex to simulate stretched fabric over frames, and a different SCW skin.

Many thanks.

Cheers

p.s Soon-ish for model and texs?

Say UT, I've searched in all the usual spots for those Dh Hornet Moth skins, but to no avail. Are they available?

Not yet ready for release, still working on the airfiles.

It's a rework of Frank Eltons Hornet Moth, but lots of little changes/additions:

remapped textures (so I could do some camo pattern skins)

Cabin doors animated

Prop now spins (didn't with the original conversion I did to get it into CFS2)

Made a floatplane version

changed the pilot for a pair of Dave Garwood Anson crewmen

;)
