FS9 Xtreme Evolution: beta testers wanted!

Hello Sasha and all !

First I humblyask for forgiveness for my long silence and as I am doing my Mea Culpa I will go the full whack lol

In my haste to install and play or rather test sorry this brilliant addon I completely forgot that there is a so call real world or it calls itself that in any case and so went happily ahead only to suddenly discover I had lost internet and phone connections , yes they do cut off if you forget to pay the bills so I was isolated and unable to communicate with the outside world thus my prolonged silence.

That now being fixed i can post my first report

What can I say superb absolutely superb Sasha you have done some sterling work and FS9 is a whole new experience at least for me.

Ok this is about beta testign so get serious Mats

My only real problem that I encountered was that after installing all the files as per instuctions FS9 loaded fine until about 58 % when it seemed to hang on terrain and then CTD after some experimenting not having internet I discovered just as has been reported here that by putting in my old terrain.cfg and changing nothing else all seemed fine and a whole new world opened up. I have tried to work out why the terrain.cfg you gave us caused this but cannot find an satisfactory explanation at all so I am stumped as to why it does this but as said installing my original terrain.cfg seemd to cure it.

I will post screenshots in next post but I did notice two things which at first perturbed me but reading now I can see others have commented on it and it boils down to taste in the first case.

I had never used the enbbloom utility but went ahead and installed it as supplied by you and found my world to be a bit blueish green lol and the white to be blindingly white but also generally more dark than i was used to it was as if I was flying in a Film Noir lol I have since read that this can be tweaked so will start playing with it, I know his i down to taste and if i could make a recommendation I would say include it as an option and with your excellent comments you have made on its use here on thread in a readme so user can experiment with it in or out so to speak just my two cents. Again this is a matter of taste and has NO bearing on the richness and amount of detail and sheer awesomeness ( is that a word) of the experience in my view.

My second problem which i do no know if others are experiencing are trees suddenly appearing in runways and taxiways of stck airports where before there were none at all , i tried to reduce sliders of autogen to very sparse in increments down form very dense and it seems to have no bearing on the issue, this is happening around stock airports .

I should add that as a Swede I created a new FS9 install which I called Scandinavia which is a default fs9 install into which the only thing i have added are Swedish Norwegian Danish and Finnish aircraft for the moment no addon scenery has been added except some general mesh scenery. My bizarre tree issue happens both with the mesh activated and deactivated and I am using only the default stock airports which I have tweaked in afcad for the three where I seved with the Swedish airforce. Kiruna Uppsala and Lulea.

I know this is a long post Sasha and everybody else so excuse he waffle but felt I should giv Sasha an update as to my silence again sorry for delay

AkktuStakki

AkktuStakki, thank you for this feedback!

Regarding enbseries your suggestion to inlude it as an option is a good idea!

Tress on the runway I have not had but those random trees standing around in fields yes. I don't know where they are coming from because the same texture set displays perfectly with all proper autogen in other places.

Now I have a specific request which might help us identify this: Could all of you with trees growing where they shoudn't please look into your FS9\scenery\World\texture and delete the following files:
128b2an1.agn, 134b2an1.agn, 135b2an1.agn139b2an1.agn, 140b2an1.agn, 141b2an1.agn

If trees are stil there please restore your original terrain.cfg into the FS9 root directory and see if the trees are gone.

If the trees are still there could you please restore your default.xml into the FS9\autogen directory.

I'll be checking autogen files, I think I created some which MS did not have, this might cause some issues. If I find any, I'll remove them for BETA 2.0.

AkktuStakki, could you please post me your terrain.cfg?

Thank you again and all the best,
Sascha

Edit: Please also remove any .agn files between the 049h2 and the 068b2 sets i.e. all the 050+x sets.

So far in my travels around the world I have not experienced any trees or other objects on taxiways, or runways - however, I have noted the runways and taxiways, if normally supposed to be asphalt, seem to be a very dark shade of brown instead - Sascha if you check out my screenshots I think you'll see this, maybe a little. I have noted trees are appearing in farmers' fields and, kind-hearted souls and lovers of nature they are, they appear to plough around them:mixedsmi: However, that's the only real problem I see on my sim. I do not have any add-on terrain of any kind (UT, etc), stock FS9, only additions are Rwy12 objects plus NovaGold, some AI traffic as well - also all of CalClassic's period airports for my sim. No problems with those sceneries at all. I too have replaced the new terrain config with the original terrain config file after experiencing that hangup, then CTD. Mine occuurred at about 78%, while installing scenery objects. Since putting the orig terrain config back in, no problems at all. No effect on frame rates. Sascha has opened a whole new world with this Beta version, looking forward to the finished product.

Hi, try one of these files, maybe they will suit your taste better!

Cheers,
SaschaView attachment 92191

Thanks, Sascha - that appears to have done the trick.

Also - tried the tree fix you posted re: removing those files. Trees are now on the borders of fields where they belong, their appearance in copses, forests, etc is not altered.

Trees

Hello Sasha !

I tried removing the trees as instructed and found no real difference although I think there are now less trees in awkward places although still on runways in Sweden lol

Putting in original default xml did no change whatsoever .

I have sent you my terrain.cfg by pm as requested

Hello Sasha

Here comes the terrain.cfg as requested

Akktu

Great, I'll compare this with mine. I edited the terrain.cfg more as an afterthought to increase beach sizes and reduce exclusion around certain terrain features but I have not delved deep into the possibilities of wrong-doing = CTDs. The easiest way will probably just to have edited sections which people can paste into their own configs.

Cheers,
Sascha

I removed the agn files, restored original terrain and autogen files and didn't see a difference either. Strange. Unless my copied terrain.cfg I have isn't the original? Hmmm. Is it found on one of the cd's? I might try that just in case.

*EDIT* Used original Terrain.CFG from Disk 1 but still the same. No CTD's though.

Hi all,

I've been mucking about with the trees and these are my thoughts: the trees misplaced on fields all come from a generic field texture set which does not allow annotation i.e. should always display default autogen. So this effect became noticeable when I made a new texture set with a clearly defined field structure (not the default mish-mash from MS).

What bugs me is that the changed set displays correctly annotated autogen in some few locations.

I have solved the problem by using a more generic textures for this set which I have in reserve.
As far as I can tell, this set is used all over anyway - from Scotland, Greece, Italy and in many places in the states, in locations which are very different in the real world - so a more generic approach is the better idea in any case.

If there still are trees on airports after installing the default texture.cfg and deleting all agn files means that more agn files must be deleted. The corresponding texture sets do not seem to be able to be annotated even though annotated autogen displays in some locations. This seems to be a general problem - I think that MS didn't properly finish autogen placements, having annotated autogen only for the sets listed in the Autogen SDK (about half) and all others ony displaying random trees and shrubs. The generic texture set I mentioned above is a case in point - it displays beautiful autogen with precisely placed buildings and trees in the vicinity of some addon airports (maybe due to some interaction with the addon) and just trees everywhere else.

This might also be the case for the spurious towers that a couple of the testers encountered.

I will be working on the tweaks the rest of the week and see if I will release Beta 2 on the week-end. But autogen will most probably not be ready by then and I really want to release Beta 2 all in one go. So I will likely delay releasing this for another week.

Best wishes,
Sascha

After a handful of tries I simply can't get any of the new textures to show properly in a clean install. The ones for the main texture don't cause an issue but the scenery/world/scenery ones make the garish hues and so forth. I'm guessing it is due to my graphics card or monitor or both that just can't deal with the level of detail. If it is because of an improper install, any tips would be welcome here or in a PM. Thanks.

Hi,

try also deleting the following .agn files: 006a2's, 006b2's, 006c2's, 009b2's, 009c2's, also ALL .agn files AFTER 010h2an7.agn up to 29b2an1.agn EXCEPT the 012b2's, 015f2's and 025b2's which you can leave in the folder.

This is no great loss as these are all grass and forest tiles and such.

Hopefully this should eliminate all spurious trees, I can't find any more left.

Cheers,
Sascha

I've come to notice that ENB is necessary to get things looking as they are supposed to. Still don't notice any increase in autogen but if I'm overloading with the max, it might just be skipping it over or I've not installed it right. Below is Ravalli County, MT, one of my favorite areas. The ground colors seem a bit too yellow/green for me but the aircraft is very faded so it'll take a bit more tweaking on that issue. Over at the mountains the trees seem monochromatic. I don't know if that's an ENB issue as well so I'll try other trees. All this is for non-city areas. Those still have major appearance anomalies. However, this is progress for me and much improved over my first bungles. City tiles are purple/gray with fuzzy details but that's for later. I think I'll do trees, then see if I can tone down the grass while deepening the sky a bit more slate-like.

Sascha- I have narrowed down some of the crashes to a texture issue. Don't know which texture it is, but I replaced both terrain.cfg and default.xml and still crashing at ETEJ. With the stock default.xml it will completely load, but as soon as I look towards Bayreuth/Kulmbach it crashes.

I have tried it with both my scenery for ETEJ and default scenery, with crashes both times too.

Deserts and Greeney

Hello all

Decided to take a break from flying around the Scandinavian areas and go somewhere exotic and see how EVo holds up so decided on Cairo big city lots of desert and fired up FS9 Evo and it was luscious and green and beautiful see attached screens, then a thought struck me and decided to test same city in FS9 default i have on another drive and it was very deserty and very barren. Which one is correct in real life green and then desert or desertic even at airport ? Any thoughts ?

Hi, I can't reproduce the crash. If at all possible, could you please use the program Milton has recommended http://www.softpedia.com/progDownloa...load-3365.html to see if you can identify the file causing the crash?

It would be a great help!

Hi Akktu,

after checking with Google Earth I would say that the valley around the Nile is quite green but it is desert all the way after that.

The airport itself seems to be much more dry than lush.

I haven't really looked for a landclass of that area yet, I have only a general one for all of Africa which probably doesn't work well for Egypt - I only have desert, no fields at all!

Can you make me a top-down screen of Cairo Intl. airport so that I can see what texture your landclass uses?

Cheers,
Sascha

How do I get it setup so it will show the bitmaps being loaded too? Right now all the .bgls are loading fine...

Just tried again...this was the last .bgl that opened...
19:43:50,9650842 fs9.exe CloseFile F:\fs9\Scenery\Eurw\Scenery\UT948120.bgl SUCCESS

Hi, can you send me the bgl file? I will try to find out what files it calls up. If I can't :blind: someone will know how to do this!

Cheers and thank you once again!
