Mustangs are go!

Mud....Don't you mean with down elev. you have a steerable tailwheel? Just the least bit of rudder and she turns on a dime. Thought there was a castering, free swivel, tailwheel also, that's what I'm looking for. Up elev. locks the tailwheel, am I right?

Does not seem to work that way Quicksand, for me anyway. With forward stick I get tailwheel steering and it is very fast to react. Is there anyway to tame down the fast steering reaction? Differential braking does not break the tailwheel free to caster. Did not try full down elev. maybe that will do it. Maybe the Mustang did not do this, but I have never flown a taildragger that at some point the tailwheel did not caster free.

In the early download release I got, this number needed changing from 120 to 180 in the aircraft.cfg. Don't know if thats been updated yet.

[contact_points]
static_pitch= 14.35
static_cg_height= 6.05
tailwheel_lock = 1
gear_system_type = 1
max_number_of_points = 16

point.0 = 1, -12.23, 0, -3.41, 3000, 0, 0.55, 180, 0.35, 2.5, 0.8, 1, 4, 0, 180, 180
point.1 = 1, 3.87, -5.85, -7.18, 6000, 1, 1.125, 0, 0.490, 1.25, 0.8, 7, 7, 2, 180, 180
point.2 = 1, 3.87, 5.85, -7.18, 6000, 2, 1.125, 0, 0.490, 1.25, 0.8, 10, 7, 3, 180, 180
...snip...

Thank you Mud for the very welcomed feedback, I really appreciate it!

For a little more P-51C inspiration, I thought I would post this here; just recently added to youtube by one of the Collings Foundation pilots, Jim Harley...

Brakes, rudder and yank back on the stick! Takes some real time to get used to but I enjoy the fine handling it needs!

Hey guys!
Just thought I would drop in and say hi. Youtube lets me know where the most hits are received from and this website is in the top 3. I have to be honest I haven't flown a sim since probably 2000...but I have tried to keep track of evolving technology. The Mustang on the previous couple pages of this thread is stunning. I'd love to take a whack at it! Primarily I fly the bombers but I have about 10 hours in "betty jane" and it is an amazing airplane...its not hard to imagine going into combat...there is always that urge to "bounce" unsuspecting targets...but alas we do it to give others the opportunity to fly this great airplane. Thanks for posting the link and I look forward to trying out these great flight models!!

Are the FS9 P-51 B/C buyers going to get a price break for the FSX version?..........I figure what the hell it doesn't hurt to ask!:icon_lol:

Mustang51:

Since you always taxi a "tail dragger" with the stick in your gut (unless you where taxing down wind), the tailwheel on a Mustang (If my memory serves me correct from working on them) would always be locked unless the stick was completely forward - or close too it. On the flip side of that, you have to be careful applying power with the stick forward otherwise with all that power you WILL bring the tail off the ground - in fact to do a "full power" runup in a Mustang, you have to tie the tail down!!!

Regarding your other comment, back in the early days the tail wheel WAS NOT full castering.. Since the tail wheel is basically connected to your rudder on most General Aviation aircraft, it would only turn as far as the travel of your rudder went. AS time progressed, the "full castering" tail wheel came about - pops out of a detent approx. when the rudder reaches it travel..

Hope this helps.

Paintkit!

Paintkit has been available for about three days.

Sorry didn't post an update here but it's on the front page of our site.

As we are now about to start on our Christmas break, send through requests to info@warbirdsim.com and we will process as soon as we are back.

You will need to to give your order number as this is not going out to the pirates!!
We will then send them back to you and would ask that paints initially to go here on Outhouse as our section we are working on is going to take longer than we had hoped.

Have a great one everybody!

And please point where on the front page it says this? Because I've been checking everyday almost every free hour I can.....this is amazing.

I don't care much about the FS9 paintkit, it's the FSX version I'm waiting for, and it's looking good!
Any ETA yet? I mean, are we talking weeks or months?
