The traditional post here if you are up and running P3

Thanks for the clarifications. And you're right....do the relatively simple things first in hopes of the major benefit and from that point it's a matter of a couple fps here and a couple of fps there (tweaks..).

On a related note thanks for the "how to enable AA" tip you posted in reply to another question here. I didn't remember to include a comment in my initial post about it and this solved that issue.

You folks obviously have put a lot of time and effort into developing the game and the results are amazing from what I've seen so far, albeit just scratching the surface at this point.

Again, appreciate you guys monitoring the comments here and offering help or suggestions (also surprised to see I'm not the only "old" guy here!)

Over 50 please read this thread about bumping resolutions and putting it at your max setting (actually improves frame rates), it sure worked for me:

She' up and she's running. Very easy install. Love it, just love it. Thanks OBD.:Banane57:

Up and running, but clueless. Still have to work out what key/button does what, never having played CFS3 before. However, OFF 1.1 seems to be working fine, even if I can't do anything with it at present.

Found the problem! Simple matter of forcing V-Sync off in the Nvidia control panel. Now I'm seeing frame rates from the 60's to above 100 once I get to 2000 feet and above with the terrain and scenery sliders set to (3) while leaving the remaining sliders at (5) plus AA set to 4x and AF set to 8x in the Nvidia control panel. Sitting on the ground and looking forward with the cockpit view on it's a steady low 60's. Yes, the frame rate drops to the upper 30's to low 40's while panning on the ground but that's to be expected.

If there's a V-Sync option in the game I haven't seen it. Point being, you might want to include this in the next FAQ update. What a difference with it set to OFF (not Application Setting). Just a tremendous boost in the smoothness of the game! :applause:

I found the problem (included my post) - and I was/am running the game at my monitor max resolution of 1600x1200.

Set up but small problem

:woot:Up and running and think its great. However, OlPaint01 said " It is a real pleasure not having to place the CFS3 disk in drive everytime to play." Therefore, I tried this again and the program still tells me I must put the CFS3 disk in and then crashed if I don't. Did something go wrong in the installation. I had it use the CD to get the requested files from during set up..:faint:

This is from the game FAQ :

Q. Do I still need my CFS3 disk to fly OFF BHaH?

A. Yes. All the protection Microsoft or other publisher added to CFS3 will still apply. So OFF requires CFS3 CD to fly.

"However if you have the DVD version of CFS3 ("Exclusive" brand DVD version from Ubisoft) then the DVD does NOT need to be in to fly CFS3 or OFF."

Up and running here since the wee small hours. Thanks OBD, I'm having a blast!

and the dog can't sleep
there's no escape from the machine-guns in the whole damn street
cause he's flyin all night
and the Camel's all right
Stop has got a sim called OFF
Mama never sleeps at night!!!

Running Ok

Up and running, got my copy in Australia today.

Player/target external view has been reversed now to be target/player which is a bit of a bummer though. Any chance of changing it back to the way it was Winder ?

Thanks, just fantastic apart from that so far,

Speedski

Up 'n running here in The Great White North. Installation routine was slick and flawless. I'm completely awestruck by the improvements over P2.....to be continued in another thread somewhere.

A thousand thanks to all those who toiled on this magnificent project!!

Cheers,

Received my DVD here behind the Cheddar Curtain on Saturday I went to a Disco Biscuits show that night in Chicago. I blew off the second show in Champaign on Sunday, to get home and install my copy.
My clean installation and patching was a breeze, although I did spend a bit of time on graphics, controller and workshops settings. Runs smoothly and looks great!
I was very pleased to find the interviews at the end of the credits. Great job!

Hello

Sorry but we have not delved into any of the CFS3 view code at so cannot help you - on my rig/dev system all views are standard CFS3.

After staring at the OFF package for a week now like it was some kind of forbidden fruit, I finally installed it today. Install went smoothly but ran into a few issues that I think I have figured out and some that I cannot see addressed yet ( although I may have overlooked).

I believe that my initial issue of very poor fps rates are due to my probably older low-level graphics card (jerky and frequent on the screen). Knocking down the sliders has just about cured that, except in a few cases, so I will be upgrading the card with a new one shortly.

What I do not see anymore (it showed up only once and does not return now), is the screen that used to show up before the flight where you can set the airfield location, weather, aircraft selection, etc., and then hit the "Fly" button. Showed up only during my second attempt at playing and not since - goes directly from the "Initializing" page to the flight. All I have is very cloudy weather and rain/show going for every game. How do I get this set-up page again?

Second question - is there a way to turn back on the aircraft ID's labels like in P2? I see the blue and red markers on the "radar" screen, but cannot see anything ahead until too late (of course, that is more realistic).

I did, however, manage to bag 3 DH2's in the midst of this confusion.:help:

Great Speedski !

The view has to be used once, then it will stick ;)

Hit F4 till you get to "Player/Target view", then hit CTRL+SHIFT+F4, and it will toggle between player view and target view

Got it Pol

Ah Pol my good man, you absolutely nailed it. ctl-shift-F4 did the trick, all working fine. Ah yes Winder...i never doubted you for a minute. Perhaps I have been watching too much Dad's Army again!

Anyway, as I said before, fantastic guys and I have only just begun to explore what P3 has to offer.

Cheers my good fellows,
Speedski

Hello

1) There is the old CFS3 QC in the Workshops but I recommend you use the OFF Quick Combat from main menus as you then are flying with the frontlines as they should be - in CFS3 QC the enemy surround you totally and only your field is friendly - so we have dropped it to a low level of accessibility.

2) Yes there are standard CFS3 keys for this.
